Is this being seriously discussed now? I thought it was just a negotiating tactic to get Mesa to pony up public funds for upgrades or a new ballpark.

The Muskrat has an article about it. It could be a negotiating tactic, but it sounds like it could also be serious.

Have you ever been to spring training? It's a blast. And it draws a ton of fans. I read somewhere that Cubs fans alone spend $31M in the city of Mesa during spring training. It's kind of a big deal.
