A 5/20 deal for Soriano? Are you nuts? Every GM in baseball would take that risk. He's put up great numbers every season until this one. For $4M a season, you can hope he bounces back. If he doesn't, $4M isn't going to break your budget -- no big loss.

He'd be especially attractive to AL teams, where you would hope he could avoid the injuries that have plagued him recently. I think the potential for a rebound season would be very intriguing to several teams.

Honestly. Soriano isn't really as bad as he's looked this season. His 2010 will probably look much better.

With the caveat that the market this winter could be unlike anything we've seen in over 20 years, an American League team would be stupid not to take a 20-30 million dollar shot on Soriano.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

Absolutely right. There's not many teams in baseball that wouldn't take this shot. For the really bad teams, it is a good risk/reward. For the really poor teams, it is the only chance to get as potential star at this price. For the rich teams, $4mm is pocket change - they pay that for some of their backup OFs. Nothing to lose.

If you all are correct I sure as hell hope we trade him. Because he is bad and isn't getting any better.

I wonder if new ownership is going to clean house from the top down, and really rebuild? That would be interesting. I don't see it happening - but it could be. If they want to eat a large chunk, they might even be able to get a decent prospect for Soriano.

I'm very anxious to see what Ricketts' plans are. I really hope he takes a page out of the Red Sox's book. If he goes with a true rebuild right out of the box, there could be some backlash from the fan base. But at this point, I think it's the right thing to do.

I think you can balance it out where you semi-rebuild by restocking the farm system and shedding a few bad contracts, while still remaining competitive at the same time. I just can't see a full-on rebuilding process taking place, at least not yet.

I totally agree. With the contracts we have it is going to be difficult to do a total rebuild. The following players are worth less than they are getting paid: Bradley, Soriano, Zambrano, and Dempster. Lee and Lilly only have one year remaining. Aramis may be a little overpriced because of his injury history. Fuk may be a little overpriced as well. That's a lot of toxic waste to dispose of.

I think you all underestimate Soriano's ability.
Yes he sucks this year and yes he's getting older and getting hurt more often but the past two years he would've been by far our best player if you projected his numbers over 162 games (or even 150 or so accounting for the day off here or there).
Players have bad years...this is Soriano's. it's magnified by the fact that nobody else is hitting either.
