Cubs vs Reds 8/3/2009

actually you don't, he should have yanked about 4 of those pitches into the stands.

Yeah those were all hangers. Marmol can't throw a strike to get ahead, but only throws strikes on 0-2. You know when that slider out of the zone is especially a paiin the ass to hitters? On 0-2 counts. He's just a fucking idiot.

Yep. I'd so much rather have in Gregg it's not even close. I can handle giving up homers. Throw 20 meatballs and not more than a couple are going to leave the yard. BUT FUCKING WALKS KILL YOU IN THE 9TH INNING.

I love you, Clapp. You're right on, as usual.
I'm 100% fine with this. I'm just glad there's an actual plan in place that isn't, "Let's load up on retreads and hope we get lucky." I'm a little tired of that plan.

I can't imagine what it must be like for teams like the Red Sox or Yankees, where, when you have a lead going into the 9th, you pop open a brew, relax, and enjoy a nice easy 1-2-3.
It must be heavenly.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

And the last 3 games have showed why I've always said I want the best fucking reliever to be pitching in the 9th inning. It's so much harder to get 3 outs in that inning than any other. Obviously they have to have the mentality for it, and you don't know that until they get the shot. Maybe Guzman can't handle it but you don't know that until you see him do it.

Our pen is a fucking joke aside from Guzman. Marshall and Grabow. Wow, god help us.

I was coming on to say the exact same thing. I'll live with the HR's, I can't handle the walks.
I got nothin'.

I know times have changed--but do you remember how it was with Lee Smith? The guy threw bbs at 100 mph, but it still scared the hell out of me because of the wildness and the potential for someone to just put the bat on the ball and hit it out.

The Cubs bullpen ERA is 3.95, which is essentially tied for 7th with the Phillies in the NL. It isn't *that* bad.

It's been SENSATIONAL at times(especially July), but the back of the pen is a mess at this very moment, there's no getting around that. Marmol had good control for about 3 weeks straight, now back to what he was earlier in the year.

Anyway, Grabow's a big addition, but maybe not for the reasons we got him for. We might need him to be a 7th/8th inning guy at times.

We had a nice stretch for a month, and that's helped our numbers, but for the majority of the season, the pen has been the #2 problem right behind our offense.

Ok. Let's just stop fucking talking. Wish someone would have said that in the whole Fontenot squeeze bunt situation.
