Fuks not a bad CF'er. Neither is that Reed guy.

They're not bad out there, but they're not very good either. Fuk's better off in RF, he took a few bad routes in CF last year.

I could talk myself into Ibanez, Abreu and maybe Hermida but I'm thinking the price we would have to pay just wouldn't be worth.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Well, we can't afford to pay more than 10 million per anyway I'd think. I think Abreu gets more than that though. I'd guess Ibanez is 2 years, 20 million and he'll be well worth it. I know we'd at least like either of them more than Alf and the 16 million hes making next year, followed by 18 million each of the 5 years after.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Ibanez was making $5.5m per year the last two seasons. I think you've vastly overrated what he's going to fetch in FA.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Everything I've read says he's 10-12 million per. And the reason he wasn't making much money is because he had one good season before signing the contract with the Mariners in 03, then had a couple solid years with them, signed an extension in 06. Since the extension, having 3 straight years of over 100 RBI has his value higher than it's ever been.

And chitown, I don't really see why you think his numbers would go down. He'd be in a lineup that's worlds better than his old one, will get more RBI opportunities, and would be going from a very pitcher-friendly park to a hitter-friendly park. Those 43 doubles he hit last year, at least a few of those leave the yard in the small gaps at Wrigley.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The main reason I'm worried about his production slipping is age. There aren't that many 38 years olds I feel comfortable paying 10 mil a year but that's just me. Although I do have to say looking at his numbers I'm surprised how consistent his numbers have been the last five years or so.

He's fine, I wouldn't say he's "good" out there though. He's not very fast and has a blah arm. An outfield of Soriano, Reed, and Dunn might be the worst in baseball history.

I love the hyperbole when it comes to describing defensive outfields. The worst in history? How would you even quantify that?
I got nothin'.

Could it possibly be worse than Soriano, Dunn, and and average centerfielder? I'm talking about everyday outfields. I'm serious, I can't think of one in the history of major league baseball that's been worse than that would be.

Also, I don't think Ibanez would be any good at all either, but I don't think he'd really hurt us there like Dunn would. Dunn needs to be in the AL for the rest of his career.

Just FWIW.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Ken Rosenthal spoke to a Rangers official who expects Milton Bradley to move on (at least they'll snag a supplemental pick). This official believes the Rays and, surprisingly, the Royals are the leading suitors for Bradley.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

This is from another article talking about DeRo to the Phillies

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->New Phils GM Ruben Amaro Jr. would not talk about specific targets, but Ibanez's agent, Seth Levinson, confirmed that the Phils are involved with his client. <b>Ibanez, who has averaged 112 RBIs over the last three seasons, is likely to be seeking a multiyear deal worth $10 million to $12 million per season.</b> The Cubs and New York Mets are interested in Ibanez, but the Mets have moved him to the back burner as they pursue, as one team official said, "Pitching, pitching, pitching." Ibanez lives in Miami and would like to play on the East Coast, which could help the Phillies' chances if they don’t get DeRosa.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I wish we could get Wood back, but that's apparantly not going to happen even if it were a one year deal. That being the case, if he's going to go, I'd like to see him go the American League and get a closer's role. I'd hate to see him finish his career as a middle reliever or set up guy.

As far as Derosa.... I feel very torn about him leaving the team. Getting Peavy would be huge.... but Derosa was really key to our success last year..... it doesn't sit right. Surely there are other possibilities out there. Does this mean that the potential involvement of the Orioles is out? The Pads are desperate and have no other options at this time.... so, I would rather us go in a different direction than losing Derosa. I think that's a move we'll end up regreting.
