FUCK YEAH!!!!!!! I couldn't agree more. Clearly the 97 wins last year was totally because the players played well. Hendry and Pinella had nothing to do with it. But this year, the fact that virtually every players is playing well below their established level, it's TOTALLY Hendry and Pinella's fault. If that fucker Hendry hadn't traded DeRosa, and Lou would bat Soriano 5th, we'd be 30 games over .500 right now. If Lou would pick up a base and throw it? 40 games over.

It's so fucking obvious, any idiot calling into a sports talk radio show would be able to tell us this.

So, you think Lou (and indirectly through Hendry in the offseason) has added value to the team this season? He molded this fucking roster to fit his vision of whatever he had in mind. Is anyone going to tell me that Lou has been impeccable in his decision making so far?

Of fucking course not. But you could trot the goddamn rotting fucking corpse of Connie motherfucking Mack out there, and if these fucktards continue to hit under .050 with men in scoring position, YOU AREN'T GOING TO FUCKING WIN. Why can't people understand this? 95 percent of wins are attributable to players. 95 percent of losses are attributable to players. And I'm being generous.

I never said anything different. I realize that the players control what happens and in game decisions really only have an overall W/L difference over the course of the season by maybe a handful of games. However, I think there needs to be a shake up to try to help get theses guys heads out of their asses (maybe the incident today could be it). The Cubs roster is pretty much gonna have be what it is for the rest of the season because money-wise, there's not a move to be made. Therefore, coaching changes, namely ousting Piniella, could possibly be a spark to light a fire under the team's ass and get them headed in the right direction. Should I call into the Score now?

No one is arguing that the players don't share the bulk of the blame for this season, but the fact is that 2 gentlemen are most responsible for constructing this flaccid roster. If you can't blame the people pulling the strings for the results on the field, you might as well have a computer running the team and never hire a manager or GM in the first place. Or hell, just name an honorary Manager and GM for life, because they don't really matter.

Rok, if tomorrow, Hendry traded for Pujols, and he proceeded to hit .250 with 8 home runs, would that be Hendry's "fault"? Pinellas? Or Pujols? Obviously what has happened to this team isn't as extreme, but the concept remains. Hendry put together a team that, according to the statheads at baseball prospectus, who pretty much despise Hendry by the way, was so loaded that the Cubs couldn't help but walk over the Central. The fact that this offense has exactly TWO guys with an OPS+ better than their career average (Theriot, Fuk), and of those 2 Fuk is the only one with a better OPS than last year (and we shall see where he ends up after a fast start), means the offense, as Hendry put it together, is not performing.

So what I am saying is that the players (and this is important) don't "share" the bulk of the blame. They shoulder pretty much the entire fucking load. If those guys were just average, simply played roughly as good as BOTH scouts and statheads expected them to play, the Cubs would be in first place. Comfortably. Because the starting staff and the bullpen that Hendry has put together has been pretty good. Hendry has put this team in a position to win. I'm not saying he is a genius, because he did a lot of it by throwing money at the problem. But the 2009 Cubs failures are NOT his fault. It is Soto's fault. And Soriano's fault. And Fontenot's fault. And Bradley's fault. And Fuk's fault. And so on.

The honorary GM stuff is unfair, as if Hendry had put together a horseshit team, he would deserve to get fired. He didn't. The honorary manager thing is actually closer to the truth that many of you realize. Unless a manager is going out of his way to screw things up (I think Baylor was guilty of this with his constant bunting), for the most part a manager has much less influence on a game than sports talk radio callers and team fan sites would lead you to believe.

Nice rant BT. Some good points.
Personally, while not ideal, I think Lou is fine.
I think Hendry sucks ass.

Three points for me to make here.

1. BT is so fucking right it hurts.
2. I don't get how Lou and Dusty are similar. Lou will pull a double switch early in a game from time to time, but their baseball philosophy's, player management, attitude and game management are so fucking different. I'm not defending the way Lou has managed this team this year, but if anyone wants to play the "how are Dusty and Lou different?" game, I will fight that fight.
3. A "spark" or "lighting a fire under a team" is such fucking bullshit. It's also a cliche. That's mostly why firing Lou won't happen. It's just something fuckwads like Joe Buck like to mention when he can't think of something original to comment on.

Hendry decided that signing Bradley would be a good idea. It hasn't worked out.

Hendry decided that making Fontenot an everyday player would be a good idea. He has been a disaster.

Hendry decided that going with Neal Cotts as our only lefty out of the pen to start the season would be fine. Didn't work.

Hendry decided that signing Aaron Miles for 300-400 at bats would be a good thing. Miles sucks balls.

I understand that it's mostly on the players that aren't performing, but how does Hendry get no blame here? How have the above examples helped put this team in the position to win?

Hendry's trades have always bought him the benefit of the doubt with Cubs fans. And truly, he's pulled off some incredible ones.

But when it comes to assembling a team, it's just never felt quite right. Last year was as close as it comes (and as expensive as it comes), and still, there were serious deficiencies.

See, this drives me fucking nuts. Of course Hendry deserves SOME blame. So does Pinella. But as soon as I try to point out that they don't deserve anywhere near the amount of blame that fans assign them, suddenly my words are twisted into me saying they deserve NO blame.

-Hendry decided keeping Kerry Wood, while it would have made the fanbase jizz, would not be a good idea.
-Hendry decided NOT to trade Vitters and Marshall for Peavy.
-Hendry decided NOT to cut Angel Guzman (as more than one poster on this board suggested).
-Hendry decided cutting Chad fucking Gaudin wasn't going to destroy our staff.
-Hendry decided cutting Luiz fucking Vizcaino wasn't going to destroy our staff.

Every one of these moves had people screaming from the rafters. As of right now they seemed to have worked out OK. My point is not that Hendry is a genius. Personally, the Miles signing seems pretty indefensible. But on the list of reasons we are a .500 ball club, "Miles sucks" is pretty fucking low on the list. My point is that if Bradley hits .350, with 25 home runs, then Bradley had a great year. If he hits .250, with 10 home runs, then Hendry fucked up. The GM and Manager get very little credit when things are going well, and get far too much blame when things are going poorly.
