Joey G to Iowa?

If the DeRosa move were only a money move, I guess I can understand it (though I do tend to think that we could have made it work with DeRosa's contract on the team).

If the move were to get more left handed or to get Fontenot more at bats, that's the idiotic part. It's not like Fontenot is Chase Utley with the stick or Sandberg with the glove. He's a good player, but whatever he does with a full season is probably not going to be as valuable as what DeRosa would have done both at the plate and with the versatility he gave us.

As for the more left-handed thing, that's always been something that I've not understood. Give me better players, no matter what side they hit from. It's this same sort of thinking that gets teams stuck with a Neal Cotts in the pen when there are probably better options available, but they stay away because they're right handed.

I tend to think the DeRosa move had a lot to do with the Peavy push, personally.

BT,
I'm going to let you in on a little secret that's gonna blow your mind.
Baseball players get injured a lot.
Shh. Keep it low; not many people know about it.

Like that Iron Horse 3rd baseman you were crowing about,
the spawn of Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripken, Aramis Ramirez?
Missed 13 games last year. Thirty the year before that. 30.
Two years before that? Thirty-Nine games missed. 39.
Good man to base your point around.

Alf has missed more games in the past 2 years than in all his other years combined. He's a 33 year-old man. Derrek Lee? A 33 year-old man. Milton Bradley misses more games than any other star player in all MLB. Font has never played a full season, and could certainly use some days off. Indeed, Lou even specifically said that one of the reasons he thinks the Cubs stunk the past 2 post-seasons was because the players were tired, and that he was going to go out of his way to give his regulars more rest.

With all of the above blasting you in the face, you're gonna tell me that DeRosa would have a hard time finding playing time?
Utter bullshit.
It seems real obvious to me that having a good bench, and/or excellent utility guys to sub for injured players is a key component of building a winning team.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

So by saying Ramirez isn't a fragile pussy and there's no reason to expect him to get hurt, BT was somehow implying Ramirez is made of steel and would never, ever get hurt? Is that what you really what you got out of that?
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Getting more left handed and getting Fontenot more PT were not my ideas, nor was the idea that both of those could be done while at the same time saving money by ridding the club of DeRosa, Wood, and Marquis. I would have rather had none of those things happen. I would have rather went into 2009 with the exact same club that we ended 2008 with, but I don't think financially that was gonna be possible and having DeRosa along with Bradley on the same team was not ever gonna happen. So, bitching about it is completely pointless. I'm done talking about it, I'm not gonna mention DeRosa's name again, talking about it here is utterly pointless. I'm not mentioning the name Adam Dunn ever again either.

Man, I had a ton of snark to unload on you after this fairly dishonest twisting of what I said, but I see Griff has encapsulated it much more concisely than I would have.

Again, to recap, you made the laughable statement that any fool could see Ramirez was going to get hurt this year. I was trying to point out that this was hyperbolic nonsense.

I've got more to add about you guys bitching and moaning because Hendry didn't pay a guy 5.5 million to be a supersub, while the rest of the planet is cutting back on salary, but I'll save it for another time.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.
