Joey G to Iowa?
#16
Hmmmm, seems to me that we had a guy on our roster that could play the OF, 2B, 3B and cost a hair more than Freel. I think this pretty much kills Ruby's theory that the Bradley signing was dependent upon DeRosa being traded. If we blow $800k on Gathright when he refuses his assignment and then wind up acquiring Freel at $3.3m, it pretty much negates the monetary effect of the DeRosa trade, and in this light, makes it look like a collosally stupid trade.

Joey does not have six years of service time, so if he refuses his assignment he walks away from the remainder of his 800k salary.

Ok, so he accepts it and we're still stuck paying him $800k to be in AAA. On a related note: Gathright's waivers expired, apparently unclaimed. No word on official move for Wells' spot.

Freel will report tomorrow and be activated then. Gathright to the O's.

Sign me up for Freel. I was never a huge fan of his, but I have a feeling he can be another Reed-type character for the team with a little more versatility. And the main difference between DeRo and Freel, aside from power and speed, is that Freel won't bitch about playing time.

Hilarious.

So, instead of one dude making $5M, we now have two dudes making $2M (Miles) and $3.3M (Freel) who do the same thing as the one dude, but not as well.

And we still don't have a real SS on our roster.

This should diminish Miles role by quite
a bit though shouldn't it?

Yeah, it should relegate him to just the occasional start at 2B against LHs, but I guess he could still spell Theriot from time to time.

I wish we never signed him.

It isn't a bad thing -- but it does accentuate the ridiculousness of the DeRosa trade.

Who said anything about being mad? It just makes some of the offseason moves look a little less than stellar, that's all.
