Joey G to Iowa?

Freel. Is he the dirty little prick that elbowed someone in the face in the 2003 playoffs? If he is, he's a fucking scumbag.

It isn't a bad thing -- but it does accentuate the ridiculousness of the DeRosa trade.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
No, no, no, no, no. Notice how with Freel, Fontenot is still the 2B, would not have been with DeRosa.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't really feel like illustrating how DeRosa and Fontenot could both get plenty of ABs on this team again...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
And I don't feel like illustrating that DeRo would have to accept a bench spot and HOPE for injuries to Bradley/ARAM/Lee to play again...
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
You don't have to HOPE for injuries to Bradley -- you have to plan for the inevitable.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Just because Hendry has to plan for it doesn't mean DeRosa is going to accept it, especially when he's looking at the last chance he's got to earn a good contract. Which is why Hendry dealt DeRosa while he had a nice value, picked up some good minor league pitchers, and signed guys like Miles and Gathright, who aren't everyday starters, but are plenty capable of filling in for a period of time.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
If Hendry and/or Lou thought DeRosa was going to be a problem, then go ahead and tell DeRosa he's the starting 2B and tell Fontenot he's the utility guy. When Bradley, Ramirez, Alf, etc. go down with injuries, DeRosa moves into those slots and Fontenot is playing 2B. Problem solved.

By the way, what's all this "accept the role" stuff? Didn't we have DeRosa under contract? What...was he going to chain himself to the hot water heater and refuse to put his cleats on?

There was no reason to expect Ramirez and Alf to go down with injuries, neither has a history of being injury prone. I'm sorry, you can't handle the business of the game this way. It pretty much comes down to Bradley and Fontenot, or DeRosa and much less Fontenot. At the end of the year, I think we'll be happy we went the route we did.

Love the trade, because Freel does everything Gathright can do and so much more. I don't see how the O's did this. I mean McFail is a dumbass, but it must only be to eliminate Freel's ill-will, because it's like having TWO Pies on your team now. That's basically what Gathright was, Felix Pie.

This trade is the freel deal, but Butcher is spot on about DeRo.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

The fact that the Cubs required the O's to thrown in cash, close to $2M to make this deal happen, should help every single person here realize that there are $$$ constraints for the Cubs right now. There were in the offseason, the reason why Wood was let walk, DeRosa wasn't resigned, and Marquis was traded and they still exist now.

Fucking <b>this</b>. I didn't know he requested a trade earlier this season, but when I saw this on MLBTR yesterday I was hoping we would get Freel. We're easily a better team without a shitty hitter who was fast but stupid on the basepaths as our 25th man.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Ryan Freel said not even Farney believed that Freel made the stupendous diving catch on Albert Pujols Tuesday.

Farney? Who's Farney?

"He's a little guy who lives in my head who talks to me and I talk to him," said Freel, acting as if he finally crashed into too many walls, ran into too many catchers and dived into too many dugouts. "That little midget in my head said, 'That was a great catch, Ryan,' I said, 'Hey, Farney, I don't know if that was you who really caught that ball, but that was pretty good if it was.' Everybody thinks I talk to myself, so I tell 'em I'm talking to Farney.' "<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

More on Farney on his Wiki... and pretty much anywhere else. Just a simple google of Ryan Freel Farney will return a lot of stuff.

And there's more with Freel...

The Cubs have the third highest payroll in baseball. I agree that they have money constraints, I just think it's funny.
