Aside from the fact that Pierre sucked balls for us and has declining all around skills, the biggest thing that bothered me about him were his comments late in that season where he said he "might" consider coming back, as if we needed to beg his ass to sign. Fuck him forever and ever.

If I ever had to watch the opposing pitcher go from 1st to 3rd again on a single due to Pierre's weak-ass noodle arm, I might do myself some serious harm.

Even during his "good" second half, his OBP was .340 -- which is OK, but not great. He also got caught stealing 10 out of 38 tries. That's a 73% success rate. So whatever good came of him stealing second when successful, was pretty much canceled out by all the times he was thrown out.

When speed is your only asset and you can't even steal bases at an acceptable rate, you don't qualify as an everyday player.

The only way I could hate Pierre more is if he ended up on the White Sox somehow.

Pierre's hitting makes him a poor choice for a starter. With a different attitude though, he could be a good bench guy.

His noodle arm is, IMO, somewhat mitigated by his fielding prowess; he's actually a damn good CFer, at least with the glove.
Because of his great speed, he gets to a lot of balls, and has excellent range.
And sure-handed? In his year with the Cubs, he played all 162 games, and didn't commit a single error. Literally, not <i>one</i>. That's pretty good.

He should be starting in the majors, just not at anywhere near that price. I agree with tom in that he's a good #2 hitter on the right team. He needs to go back to a spacious park like he had in Colorado and Florida. He's probably the best contact hitter in the majors and still has great speed.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where Pierre, if he were free (ie, the Dodgers ate all or most of the $28 Million left on his contract) could be useful:

Hmm...he might be a good late-inning guy; pinch-runner, or bunter.
As tom implied, he's one of the best bunters in baseball. So, say your team is down by one run in the top of the 9th, and your leadoff man gets on. Bring in Pierre to bunt him over, and with his speed, there's even a decent chance that it won't be a pure sacrifice...Pierre might wind up safe at first. Then, you'll have the potentially winning run on first, in the form of the very fast Pierre.

Then he'd be a good defensive replacement in the next half-inning, as long as he didn't have to make a throw.
