Top 100 prospects

QUOTE (KBwsb @ Feb 26 2009, 01:08 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Yeah, but how many prospects are still with their original team by Year 10?
I'm not campaigning against HS picks, per se. But it seems that if you're going to use a Top 5 overall pick on a HS kid, he better look like A-Rod.

I have no evidence of it, but my guess is more high schoolers are with their old team after 10 than college players. The assumption being High schoolers will play at least 2 more years in the minor leagues than the college students.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

like I said, the right pick was obvious at the time.
And considering that Weiters got almost twice the bonus as Vitters, you'd have to say it was obvious to most baseball guys too.
I think sometimes that Wilken tries to overthink it. The Colvin pick sounds like somebody trying to hit a 500ft homer, when a nice, safe bunt single woulda won the game.
And instead, we got a strike-out.

I thought he was talking about Ryan Harvey.

There's some special high school talents though that you just have to take. This kid looks like one of them, and he IS a kid. Bryce Harper, he's a 15-year-old sophomore in high school at Durango in Vegas. I played against them there in high school and we got our asses kicked.

He's considered a lock to be the #1 pick in the 2011 draft and some say would be right now even. I've never seen the ball jump off of a high schooler's bat like this kid. They show him participating in this home run derby at Tropicana and he's hitting 500 foot bombs. Yes it's with an aluminum bat but those bitches are long gone regardless. He's also got a catcher with a cannon but can play 3rd and SS as well. We're going to be hearing a lot about this guy in the next few years.

Just, wow.
Hard to fathom that that guy is a soph in HS.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Holy shit! That kid's got a hell of a swing. Compact, fast, and powerful.

Great swing, but too much leg movement. Open stance, toe tap, foot turn, stride. Easy to fix, but too much going on there.

Yeah, he'll be good. But there's a lot of things that can happen between now and then. Plus, at 6'3" and 205 at 16, you never really know if he's hit his peak or not. He's a big kid. A lefty catcher is kind of an anomaly. Apparently he showed up at a underclassmen all star event where most of the kids were frosh and sophs. He was in 6th grade. He hit 2 homeruns and had the highest grades coming out of the event. Some kids just have it.
I got nothin'.

He only hits left-handed. They showed him throwing behind the plate, and he's right-handed.

Apparently, I wouldn't make a good scout. I watched that entire thing with him catching and didn't bother to notice he threw right handed.

It's possible but there's no reason to think that. If it's a pitcher throwing 95 mph at 15 that's a different story.

You are retarded.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy
