The likelyhood of Peavy
Nothing about a trade but an interesting Peavy article from ESPN the Magazine.

Randy Bush apparently said (yesterday?) that there is "nothing" to the Peavy rumors.

I think it's probably just posturing, but he is the assistant GM. It's not as if he doesn't have access.

I am starting to believe that also.

We don't know that the Padres don't want Heilman. Or maybe they're desperate for Marshall, and Hendry didn't trust Olson. So he acquires Heilman, and then deals Marshall.

That's what I was thinking. Hasn't Olson been abysmal in the big leagues?

I'm trying to stay optimistic throughout this offseason.

Why bring in Olsen in the first place, then?

I could speculate as to reasons (O's were the only team really interested in Pie, and they didn't want Olson either), but I don't really know.

Hell, it could be because Hendry had approached the M's about Heilman (that part's a certainty), and the M's said they wanted Olson from the O's. Shit if I know how these things go down.

I dunno, I find it hard to believe that Pie had fallen so hard as to only be able to net Garrett Olsen. I also find it hard to believe that the Mariners held out for Garrett Olsen when/if we asked for Aaron Heilman.

If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Yes, this stuff about Pie falling so low that he's worthless on the trade market is just bullshit. About 95% of the writers, bloggers, and TV talking-heads liked that trade for the Orioles, and Pie is projected to be the O's starting LFer in 2009.

Honestly, I know I seem like I criticize Jim a bit much, but can anyone explain WTF he's doing? I especially dislike that quote that's in all the Heilman stories that Jim "has liked him ever since he was at Notre Dame."
That was a fucking decade ago! I reminds me of his taking Ryan Harvey with the uber-important 6th pick of the 2003 draft, because they went to the same high school.
