#1
No surprise really. He gets $4.2 million this season now.

That surprises me, given that Wuertz - after almost 4 full seasons in the majors - spent a lot, if not most, of last year in the minors. Over $1 million is surprising and I'd have almost guessed they'd have non-tendered him.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

I think he gets traded before the season starts. He's a relative bargain, doesn't have a future with the Cubs, and we're overloaded with righty relievers.

I actually think Wuertz can be valuable. he goes on streaks where he is pretty unhittable. He has a filthy sinker thank he throws that can force guys to hit in double plays. That said, he also go through stretches where he completely sucks.

If Wuertz can get his slider breaking right, he's amazing. But that's rare, since ironically he's a "slider specialist."

He has no balls, but he's a fine 6th inning guy. Trade him? Fine by me. Keep him? Fine by me. I'm very whatever with him.

Wuertz sucks. It's been said many times already, but the only reason his numbers look halfway respectable is because Marmol cleans up after him a lot more than he should have to.

I'm pretty convinced that all a hitter has to do to be successful against Wuertz is go up there and not swing.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The Palm Beach Post reports Marlins minor league reliever Jose Ceda has been shut down for three or four days with discomfort in his right shoulder.

Ceda is a big hard-throwing right-hander acquired from the Cubs in the Kevin Gregg trade. Manager Fredi Gonzalez is terming the setback minor and plans only to "slow him down a little bit." Ceda has a chance for a late-season bullpen role as long as the shoulder soreness is fleeting.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Maybe we knew something Florida didn't know about that "hard-throwing" arm.
