MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
[quote name='WiCubsFan' timestamp='1333553232' post='185424']

Andy just posted an article on the Cubs prospects. Looks like Vogelbach is staying in Arizona to start the year, along with Baez. It's up in the air if either will start the year in Boise or Peoria in June.

Hi,

According to Baez' agent he likely will go to Peoria; don't know for sure about Vogelbach. That jives with what I read in Mesa last week before we came back.

I'll bet he crapped on the mound anyway.

Why the hell did the Marlins have one home game before playing in Cincy today?

Hi,

At one time the tradition was the Reds played the opening game in the National League. I suspect the schedule was set, then with the Marlins opening up the new park, MLB saw a marketing advantage and moved the Cardinals into a nationally televised game. Much like next year having two leagues with an odd number of teams, one league with a DH and the other without, it is just the uncanny stupidity of the commissioner and MLB..

Looks like Brandon Phillips just got 6 years at $72.5 million from the Reds. They haven't been shy these last few months.

Reds are going to be tough. They appear that they are set to win despite Dusty.

Saw a great quote about Dusty from a writer last week - 'Dusty, a man who I wouldn't trust manage the late night shift at a 7-11.'

If Rolen stays healthy, the Reds should win the Central.

Where is Walt getting the coin to sign these guys?

Why in the world would they be on this spending spree and keeping Baker around?

6 year deal for a 31 year old? Phillips has been a stud for the Reds but that's a long deal for a guy in his 30's.

I don't know... I have a hard time betting against the Cards and they look great right now. Beat the crap out of the Reds in Cincy yesterday too.

Fucking Cards just reload. No matter who they put in, they always seem to produce each year.

No Pujols, no problem. It's sickening

Well they have a full year of David Freese now, and they added Carlos Beltran. Scoring runs will not be a problem for them. It's very early, but they're already 1st in runs, 2nd in batting average, 3rd in on-base percentage, 3rd in slugging percentage, etc.

Fuck that. The Cardinals will be sucking wind and Tony LaRussa's retired anus come August.
