Best Cubs news I've heard in some time.

Can this really be true? I saw Rapp even seemed to agree. I haven't checked the numbers so maybe it is, but I feel like we've had shittier stretches than this, but everything always feels worse in the moment and some folks tend to have short memory spans.

And as bad as we've been lately, we've still had some historical moments like the combined no-hitter and 6-1 comeback, so I feel this has to be exaggeration or Carl wasn't old enough to remember the shitty seasons of yesteryear. Hell, even some of those early 2010's seasons were as brutal as they come.

I've chatted a fair amount with Evan lately and he has a really sour taste in his mouth because of the Ricketts family. I'm not gonna lie, they've been making it a lot harder to be a fan of this franchise.

No doubt about that.

I'd be shocked if the Rickettses retain their controlling interest in the team for very long. I think their goal all along was to own the neighborhood and then cash out. Just my 2 cents. They too shall pass just like the Tribune.

Really? I think their family owns the team forever. Its a vanity thing. Theyll pass it down for generations.

I don’t know how they can segregate the real estate, communications - and even politics - from the Cubs. Can they sell off the Cubs only without these other entities? Sure, but it’s not clean simple transaction that leaves the Ricketts not involved or making cash off the Cubs, Wrigley, Marquee, etc.

It's my understanding that those assets are all separate entities/LLCs (O'Malley had the same structure in LA before selling to Guggenheim). Also, the Rickettses have already dabbled in the SPAC market and explored talking minority interests in other sports (soccer, minor league hockey, etc.) and gambling assets or even cashing out a large piece of the Cubs to a private equity owner/managing member to pay down debt. The point is that the Rickettses don't need to control and be the faces of team ownership and be exposed to unwanted public scrutiny long-term. They're too thin-skinned to want to go through multiple boom/bust cycles with each competitive window and painful subsequent rebuild. They may not go away completely, but I can easily see them gradually recede into a minority stakeholder position sometime over the next decade, while still retaining a big chunk of the other Cubs-related assets and control Wrigleyville forever.

And the Cubs receive the rights to 4 children expected to be born sometime in 2022 to very athletic, Latin American parents

Hoyer has already been quoted as hoping to be able to sign them prior to leaving in free agency at age 5-6. Given today’s baseball economics and Cubs ownership commitment to putting every dollar back to the organization, it’s not looking likely
