I don't know where the money would come from to get him. We'd have to part with some players and be able to pay the guy. *shrug* He'd still be a perfect fit for us, but I seriously doubt that happens.

Here's where we're at, payroll wise - stolen from NSBB. with Bradley added in.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->*Assumes modest raises for pre-arb. players and pro-rates signing bonuses. The Tribune stated 2007 payroll was $120 mil. This comes within $2 mil. under these same assumptions. This total includes $6 mil. in signing bonuses. If signing bonuses are not pro-rated but included in the year signed, the total is $2 mil. lower (-$6M/+$4M for Dempster). Media has reported 2009 payroll to be around $140 mil. (with one report as high as $150 mil.).

Why would a team that offered Tex about 150 million dollars be dumping salary? And if they aren't dumping salary, and are in need of middle infielders, why would they trade their best middle infielder?

I don't see Roberts coming here. I hope I'm wrong.

The numbers gotten off of NSBB are wrong.

Z, Aramis, Soriano, Lilly, and Fuk are all making a mill less than what they have on there. Shark is half a mill less too. Dempster is either at 8 or 12, depending on how it's figured in. His actual salary is 8, but he has a 4 mill signing bonus.

AZ PHIL has a much better grasp on our salary situation honestly. We are at 130.975 right now, with Demp counting 12 mill, Bradley at 10, Blanco's buyout, and the money sent over in the Marquis swap.

We still have to sign Gregg, Wuertz, and Cedeno.......Phil allots 6.5 total for that.

And then we have to re-up the guys who aren't arb eligible yet. (Theriot, Marmol, Soto, Fontenot, Marshall, Guzman and Hoff) Unsure where Bako fits in, I'm assuming he'll be a non-roster invitee myself......

Bottom line is this: Once we add the non arb and the arby guys to our payroll, were right at 140, unless Demp is only counted at 8, which leaves us 4 shy obviously......Hendry seems to think we'll get a bump from whoever the new owner is, so I definitely see us adding a SP at the very least, if it's a stopgap guy(and that's my honest thought) maybe we'll be able to add a Roberts or something like that as well.

I think the reason everyone is 1 mil too high is because they pro rated the signing bonuses. Teams often pay signing bonuses 1 mil a year. I know Dempster's contract said signing bonus was to be paid that way, so I think 9 would be right.
