What's the delay, hurry up and sign Milt.

The Marquis trade needs to be finalized first.

What's the hitch in that then?

I think my custom member title needs to be changed first.

I would guess it's coming down to how much the Cubs are going to pay of Marquis salary. Just that's entirely a guess.
I got nothin'.

The rumors had it that they were willing to put up $180 mil for Teixeira. If that's even remotely true, then they have the money to outbid us. I really don't think Bradley would want to go there. Money talks though.

Supposedly Marquis and family is-was out of the country on vacation and is due back today-tommorrow.
I assume they'll announce it this week.
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Cardinals signed Royce Ring. I guess they feel like he and Miller will be sufficient enough from the left side.

According to ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine, the Cubs signed Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30MM deal.

J.C. Romero was hit with a 50-game suspension. That's too bad. He's a turd.

And that's very good news for us and the rest of the NL. Huge loss for them.

Dave Van Dyck says the Cubs are "actively seeking more live arms, whether it be Jake Peavy or another starter to replace the innings of Marquis."
Link.
If not Peavy, it better be someone good.

I've always liked that guy. But yeah, it's pretty much Peavy or no one.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->As far as Peavy goes, sources say Hendry has not talked seriously of late with the Padres, who are in the midst of an ownership transition, just as the Cubs are. However, Hendry has not shut the door on a possible deal.
Even if the Peavy talks are on ice, Hendry is expected to pursue a starting pitcher of some sort between now and the start of spring training in mid-February.
Marquis, the Cubs' No. 5 starter the last two years, will make $9.875 million this year, and the Cubs probably will have to pick up some of that freight.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the A's are on the verge of completing a one-year, $5.25 million deal with Jason Giambi.
If Olney's numbers are correct, it's a major steal for Oakland. The contract also carries an option for 2010 worth just $4 million. Giambi made $23.5 million last season and hit .247/.373/.502 with 32 dingers and 96 RBI.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Agent Scott Boras said the Dodgers will release Andruw Jones on January 15 if they're unable to swing a trade for him.
According to MLB.com, the Braves may have interest in bringing Jones back to Atlanta, but it's doubtful they would give up anything significant to grab him. The overweight center fielder will earn $5 million this season.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Brewers GM Doug Melvin told FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal that he has interest in signing free agent closer Trevor Hoffman.
Melvin believes the interest is mutual. The Dodgers have also been in talks with Hoffman, but if the all-time saves leader wants to close games in '09, Milwaukee is the better fit.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
