MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
<!--quoteo(post=116261:date=Oct 5 2010, 02:19 PM:name=BT)-->QUOTE (BT @ Oct 5 2010, 02:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><!--quotec-->i just checked, and tickets behind the first base dugout at Tropicana field are available for purchase to anyone who wants them, less than 24 hours before the game starts.

In other words, Tampa can't sell out playoff games. What a joke.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Yeah and they have a damn good shot at being the AL representative in the World Series...which means that piece of shit place has seen two world series in the last three years? If it wasn't from my pure hatred for the Marlins, that would piss me off more than the shitball Marlins getting two championships in their hell hole.

Braves didn't waste any time.

That's a steal for the Braves. Infante will never repeat his 2010 numbers again.

Yowsa. Even if the Braves can't re-sign him, they can offer him arbitration (he turned down a 4/48 deal from the Marlins, so he'll not be accepting arbitration short of a dive-bomb season), and get draft picks worth more than Infante and Mike Dunn.

Not to be whatever, but shit, for that price - the Cubs surely could have found a spot for him. Almost any team could have.

Hell, he could have been the new first baseman.

That would actually make some sense, because he supposedly a poor defender at 2B. Hell, he might be playing 1B for Atlanta unless they move Prado there.

Last year, it seemed like more teams were talking about how fielding was an undervalued trait. A number of high profile teams made moves last year to enhance their defense in hopes that would be the key to winning without having to break the bank.

This year, one of the first free agency moves this season includes a smart team trading for one of the worst defensive second baseman in the majors who is a great offensive threat.

Is it just the Braves or will this become a trend?

I think Uggla's glove is more "below average" than "sucks!"
His rep was deeply tarnished by the 3 errors in the all-star game, but a guy who can play the position AND crank 30 non-steroid homers every year
is a guy I'd certainly like on my team.

There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

So Jeter allegedly wants four or more years. I understand what the guy has done throughout his career, but he's 36. I hate to side with the Yankees on any matter, but three years at $45 million seems pretty damn fair to me.

Ah, but you're forgetting. The Yankees "owe" Jeter.

Scratch off another 1st base option for the Cubs.

Huff signs 2 year deal worth $22 MM to remain with Giants. $10 MM per year with $2MM option.

Not too bad a raise considering he was made $3 MM last year.

They will soon regret that deal IMO.

I was going to say but the Giants won a World Series, tons of fans will show up. They'll have additional revenue to blow. Then I recalled this is San Fran who knows if fans will show beyond the first month of the season.
