Not necessarily. They could end up getting their pick of guys who weren't able to be saved on other teams. It's workable if we want to do it.

Just to clarify, if you took Manning in the first and Andre Johnson in the second, in all likelihood, you can't keep them both, so one of those two would be available in the "expansion draft" if it's needed.

And that's understandable. If the league only adds a couple of guys - me and bz, for example - there's no reason you guys should have your teams completely jacked up.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Good. I need them to repeat.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
How many do you guys keep?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I thought 2.

Also it won't let me create a team. I keep getting this message
-Your invitation to that league no longer appears to be valid. Please speak to your commissioner. (Error #447)-

Someone make this right.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Then my concerns are probably allayed, assuming that you forgo a draft pick to keep a keeper (that's how it is in most leagues anyway). Anyone know who was on the teams that are open? And are there actually two open teams?
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I know that Coldneck's starters were
QB - Cade McNown
RB - Rashaan Salaam
RB - "He Hate Me"
WR - Chris Henry
WR - David Terell
WR - Charles Rodgers
TE - Shannon Sharpe
K - Ray Finkle
DEF - 2008 Detroit Lions

You get to keep 2, so get to choosing.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I saw He Hate Me and freaked, but then I saw the rest.
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Sure, that's possible... but it's also more possible that the 10 to 20 best players in the league will already be taken before the two new teams even get a crack at a single player. That would kind of suck. Top 8 players? No biggy, because sometimes you draft 9th. But top 10 to 20 players? That's a big hurdle to overcome.

we did this when my keeper league expanded before and the 2 "new" teams, not teams taking over for owners who left, had an expansion draft and got to pick keepers from the teams already in and/or those in the free agent pool (rookies), but we keep 8 in that league and let teams protect 5 from the expansion draft. since it looks like we're only keeping 2, that won't work or we could still keep 3 but each team can only protect 2 from the expansion draft. i know this isn't a long standing league yet but when you take on an expansion team in a league that hopes to have some longevity, you just have to have trust in your drafting and know that you kinda get the short end in the beginning. we're only keeping 2 or 3 though, so between an expansion draft and giving the new teams pick 1 and 2 in the actual draft it's not really that big of a hill to climb.

ace, i didn't mean to come off as snotty by the way before, i misunderstood what you misunderstood and it had me confused.

I see what you are saying, but it's almost NEVER the top 10 to 20 players. For the reason I stated above. In a 10 team league, the top 20 players are taken in rounds 1 and 2. By definition, only 10 of them can possibly be saved the next year, because they ALL require a team to use a first round pick to save them, and there are only 10 first round picks. So that not only means that, by definition, at worst the 11th best player will be available, but it also means that at least 10 of the top 20 guys (from last year) would be available in an expansion draft.

As another example, in my other keeper league, I'm probably saving Chris Wells and Matt Schaub. Are they 2 of the top 24 guys in the league? Probably not, but they make attractive picks in the 5th and 6th rounds, which is where I would have to save them this year.

It's not perfect, but it's also not like a straight draft league where the top 30 are gone before the draft even starts. The way this league is set up, many teams are more likely to save a pretty good guy in the 10th round, than a really good guy in the first.

Good points - and this isn't me whining, just responding - but even if most teams keep a good 10th rounder, that's a good 10th rounder (who's probably now a 3rd or 4th round-calibre player) that the two new teams never had a chance to get. They start with no one. When they draft a guy in the 10th round, the guy is actually a 10th rounder. So they definitely come in at a disadvantage, even if they pick at the top of the draft.
