MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Things could always be worse. We could be making the signing of Jerry Hairston Jr. a focal point of our offseason.
This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

And this is why I have no worries of that franchise making up 23 games on us.

Nope. The only teams with the possibility of contending with us next year are St. Louis (who I think overperformed for most of last season) & Houston.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Free-agent right-hander Brad Penny and the Boston Red Sox are close to agreeing on a one-year deal, according to a major-league source.

Penny, who would be in the Red Sox's starting rotation, will have to take a physical and the two sides are still working out the language of the contract.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Link - Fox Sports

I saw somewhere else he signed a 1 year deal for $5 Million with $3 Million more in incentives if he pitches 160 innings. I think thats a pretty good deal. I wish we would have signed him for that much.

Penny and Harden in the same rotation would be pretty risky, we would have to have two backup options.

I was think Penny would be the back-up option and slide into the 5 hole if they are both healthy. He would be a luxury, not someone we'd be depending on.

Jays sign Barrett to a minor league deal.
He should be out of baseball by ST.

We're doing a series "Where They Stand" on Sharapova's Thigh, going through each team individually and looking at where they stand as you would've guessed. Their 2008 outcome, what they've done, what they've lost, needs, the talk, free agent signing/trade prediction, a young player to make an impact in 2009, 2009 outlook as of now, and the hottest thigh that's associated with the team. So yeah, check it out if you wish. I'll probably post the link to all of them in here if that's cool.

Anyway, I just did the first one:

Where They Stand: Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim

Fuentes signed a 2 year deal with LAA.

He was pretty much the Cardinals top priority.

Yeah. LaRussa was even quoted as saying that. Their fans are going apeshit over their off-season so far.

Could have fooled me if he was their top priority. Did they even make him an offer?

Anyway, Fuentes will probably be pretty average in the AL.

Since the NFL Network and Big Ten Network both suck ass, I expect this will suck ass too.
