I'll add to that. The 2016 team as a whole, was historically good. The bullpen was really the only soft spot (which was largely resolved with the addition of Chapman), and it wasn't really that much of a weakness. The offense was great. The defense was other-worldly, and as mentioned, the starting pitching had 3 out of 5 Cy Young finalists. The entire NL All Star starting infield were Cubs, and Fowler was the starting CF in the ASG. Six of the nine players on the field were Cubs -- that is bonkers.
I don't think we'll ever see a team that good again.

Anyone know what’s going on with Keegan Thompson?
Appears that his velocity is down and his spring training appearances are limited. Hasn’t given up a run or hit but only 3 appearances.
Thought he would be getting opportunity to compete for starting rotation or high leverage spot in bullpen including as closer. Haven’t heard or seen much written about him. During portions of last season, Keegan was a stud and others he looked plain terrible. The guy seemed to come from unknown to making team to being lock down in bullpen role to surprising starter role to strugglingly injured role.

I haven't seen much about him recently, either. Kind of weird.

Sharma had a blip about him the other day in the Athletic. He's been dealing with some mystery issue and his FB velocity is way down (90/91). Sounds like the FO even considered shelving him for a while or having him start the season in Iowa (he has a couple of options left), but I see that he pitched effectively on Sunday against the Padres. Not sure what is going on.

I don't want to start a new thread, but I just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying watching the WBC. I hate rooting for Wainwright/Goldschmidt/Arenado, but whatever. It's playoff atmosphere baseball in mid-March.

Its awesome. So far Mexico up 3-0, would be nice to see that matchup since the baseball media seems obsessed with the Japanese team. Would be fun to see them eliminated.

That was a really fun game last night. MLB should consider doing this every two years. And also hire a graphic designer who could make jerseys and hats that don't suck ass.

I dont mind the US unis, but oof those red pants the cuban teams always wear are atrocious. This WBC has been awesome, the US lineup is absolutely stacked...too bad the pitching is so suspect. I dont know why but it annoys me that all the baseball writers seem to be obsessed with team Japan lol

The US unis aren't terrible. But their hats are atrocious. As a whole, the WBC unis are really bad. Great Britain's looks like it was designed in Microsoft Word. They all have a very dated look to them and some of them look like they were designed under a tight deadline and they just did the most generic thing possible.
