I think if the link is provided and it doesn't quote the entire article, it's OK. <!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd--> Yup. How much of the article can be posted is a fine line. The link being there is a definite must. And if at least some of the article is trimmed out, it's probably ok. A paragraph or two is preferred.

Krasovic adds that the Cubs and Padres discussed a 5-for-1 deal, where the Orioles would be involved to route more pitching to San Diego. However, Towers noted the Cubs' current payroll concerns.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I very well think that he can get this done.

Nothing huge here but some stuff from Towers.
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Peavy update Towers yesterday spoke more bearishly about the prospects of a Jake Peavy trade than he has since talks began three months ago. “Atlanta has a club policy that's been in place that no one will have full no-trade protection,” he said. “I don't see them bending the rules for Jake. At this point in time, that's not going to happen unless Jake changes his position on that.” Braves shortstop Yunel Escobar would be part of a Peavy deal and could end up at second base if the Padres keep shortstop Khalil Greene. Some close to Peavy have expressed doubt that he would OK a trade to Atlanta, saying he would prefer the Cubs. The Padres have discussed a 5-for-1 deal with the Cubs that would bring them several pitchers, including an Orioles pitcher, but Towers said the Cubs'recent signing of pitcher Ryan Dempster for $52 million might make it difficult for them to afford Peavy. “With them signing Dempster, it's going to take some creativity on their part financially,” Towers said. “I think there's still a chance with Chicago, but I think it's probably going to be difficult with them as well.” Cubs pitcher Jason Marquis is due nearly $10 million. If he is dealt, Chicago would have more room for Peavy, whose salary next year is $11 million.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

It's ridiculous that Peavy would cost us 11 M and Marquis will be at 10. I never liked the Marquis signing. We overpaid.

In this case, I think the sale of the team and what that means for payroll has a massive impact on our interest in Peavy. If a new owner is in place by year end and the budget is revised up a % or two, then we could still make something happen before ST. In the meantime, Hendry had better go about his business as usual and acquire a decent RF. If more money falls onto our lap in early 2009, then I'm sure talks for Peavy will resume. A portion of Marquis' salary has to go one way or another.

I'm still not so sure that we are going to have to pick up that much of Marquis' salary. He is still an above .500 pitcher that throws 200 plus innings every year. Finding that description in this free agent market for a total investment of $10 million is going to be hard to do. We will have to wait for some of the other free agents to sign contracts, but I still believe Marquis is moveable later in the offseason.

I hate to say it,because I didn't think it until today....but I really think that we will end up with Peavy. Its mostly a gut feel at this point but the Pads are backed into a corner because of Towers remarks and somehow I think we will move Marquis' salary.May have to pay part of it,but whatever.
I usually don't buy into this stuff, but I see this happening. It may take until most of the FA pitchers are gone....but I think now that its definitely plausible.
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
