MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Wow. Um...why?

60% of the Padres rotation is injured (including Yu who has also sucked since June), and it appears their vaunted minor league system isn't producing enough young arms to fill their needs. It's not good.

You've gotta be in a pretty desperate situation to sign Jake at this point. Sounds like that's the case...

Yep, didn't see this coming.

Took my kids to Fenway on Friday. We had a blast. It's really a great ballpark -- so much like Wrigley in a lot of ways. I do have to say -- Boston's train/bus system puts Chicago to shame. It's so easy to get everywhere. And free/fast to and from the airport! It was like 15 minutes from the airport to downtown. I couldn't believe how convenient it is. Anyway...good stuff.

Used to spend a bunch of time in Boston (at least Cambridge and Brookline) - Boston's T works better, is cleaner, and stops seem closer to where people live than the Chicago's El

Fenway is a great ballpark.  Will never forget the bleachers on a Friday evening - Sox - Yankees game.  Most fights I've ever witnessed in an evening.  The vast majority were Boston vs Boston fans.  Bleachers are a weey bit rowdy than at Wrigley.

It must be fantastic then, cause public transit here is pretty damn good.

The Metro in DC is even better. Probably the best system that I’ve used in the states

The London Underground is the best train system i've ever used.  You're literally within a five minute walk everywhere in the city.

Agreed. The London train system is incredible. It's spooky how far underneath the street it is -- the escalator goes down forever.

And unbelievably user friendly.  Getting around takes no time at all getting used to.

I watched a PBS documentary awhile back about the Boston subway system that was quite fascinating (I'm kind of a geek when it comes to historical documentaries). The city was an absolute, congested mess back then with horse buggies (and horse shit) everywhere. They also talked about how London was still running actual trains underground at that time so the tunnels and passenger cars were constantly filled with coal smoke and soot, so for Boston to go electric at that time was also a huge deal. It's cool to hear the city is still ahead of the game in regard to transit.

The train/bus to and from the airport is free. Apparently with Uber and Lyft, the airport became really congested with cars and so they tried making the T free to alleviate the congestion. It isn't anything revolutionary, but apparently it has worked really well. A lot more people are using the T and there's less car traffic around Logan. Problem solved.
