MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)

It's possible. The Yahoo! report from earlier today said the Nats had made an offer believed to be at least $150 million for seven year, but didn't have the real details. Ladson covers the Nats for MLB.com, so he should have some reliable sources.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Great way to spend your money. Tex is an absolutely tremendous player. He hits for power, high average, gets on base at a great clip, and he might be the best defensive 1b in the game. But the Nats have a million holes to fill, and although Tex is from around there, he doesn't sell. He just gets it done, but he's not a flashy fan favorite that's going to fill the seats. It takes a lot more than 1 player to win a title. You could sign a few very good players for that price and slowly get your franchise headed in the right direction.

The Cubs have some interest in Bako as a non-roster player.

Fucking Yankees.
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says the Yankees have offered A.J. Burnett a five-year contract.
This comes after reports earlier in the day that the Braves also guaranteed a fifth year, though at least one source has said that's not true. It does look like Burnett will end up getting at least $80 million for five years. Dec. 10 - 6:57 pm et<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

The Braves will guarantee A.J. Burnett a fifth year, and the Yankees are now going to revise their offer.

There's a good chance that the bidding will exceed the total value of Carlos Zambrano's five-year, $91.5 million extension with the Cubs.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Darren Dreifort ring a bell? That's a brutal deal.
I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

Fuck yea.
If no Hank ,I'd take Bako for the same price as Hill.
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.

In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.

Here's a rumor to ease the Peavy tension.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->According to Gerry Fraley, the Phillies are looking to trade starter Adam Eaton. They'll pay all but $1MM of his $9MM salary for '09 and don't want anything in return.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Personally, I think the Phillies are asking way too much.

Yeah... Eaton's awful. He shouldn't be in a Major League rotation.

I'd love it.

Didn't the Brewers ink Cameron this off season solely on the basis of geting CC? I thought it was well known that they were close friends. Either way, if it's a straight trade, the Brewers must have been looking to cut his salary.
I got nothin'.

IMO, that's a steal for the Brewers. Cameron is old, bad and expensive. Melky is younger, cheaper and has more upside. i know Cameron has more power and can still pick it, but that's about it. He's also 35.

Cameron's numbers across the board are almost all better. However, he's 35, is getting paid $7 mil and sucks. Cabrera will make less than a mil, is young and sucks.
