Where was it again that we were discussing rules changes?
In any case, here's a tweet about the intentional walks. Out of 15 who put the intentional-walk pitch in play, 3 are Cubs. Cap Anson was the first to do it! haha...

I wonder how many times batters have been plunked by an IBB pitch.

The HOF voting always makes me wonder what the underlying reason for voting for player A over player B, when they're similar. And frequently, there's a significant disparity in the voting.
Take Bagwell vs Sheffield. Yes, different positions, but similar offensive stats. Is it due to Bagwell being known as a "good guy" within baseball, whereas Sheffield had some run ins with management, media and fans?
I guess the bigger question is should personality factor into whether a player is HOF worthy?
I got nothin'.

It's a good question. Isn't there something in the language of the guidelines for voting that has to do with character?
Truth is, though, if Ty Cobb (widely acknowledged as a giant asshole) gets in, then players' personalities shouldn't be much of a factor.
That said, I hope Schilling never sniffs the HOF. Holy shit what a giant douchebag.

I think I was like 5 years old when I saw "Pride of the Yankees" and it took this tweet (43 years later) to make me realize that Gehrig didn't hit an intentional ball for an HR and that whole part about hitting 2 HRs for a sick kids was complete Hollywood bullshit

I'm not sure if that SABR tweet is fully accurate. I have a distinct memory of a TWIB episode in the mid-eighties where a hitter (I remember him being an Expo) reaching across the plate and drilling an intentional ball up the middle for a hit. Of course, SABR has more credibility for accuracy than my memory . . .

Cards sign the MVP of Cuban national team to minor league deal for $2.5 MM.
Garcia is an outfielder who played in Japan last year which allowed him to basically be a free agent this season. Baseball America rated him the 20th best Cuban prospect.

So they basically got all their draft pool money back (and a pretty good OF prospect) by making this deal. The Cards Way will not be deterred by scandals and resulting penalties. Fuck, I hate St Louis.

Are you attempting to bait Butch into a 'Cards voodoo is over' rant?
Or simply pointing out that MLB didn't even slap the Cards organization on their wrist with their BS penalty.

A little bit of both, but I will never count out Satan's messengers on earth, regardless of the projections.

Quote:Does anyone have any compassion anymore? For fucks sake. What he said was completely benign. Sometimes I just want to cry. Has our society always been so hateful and it's just now coming to the surface?
So disturbing to see what those ignorant, inbreeding, racist motherfuckers said in those tweets to Dexter.
You guys showed me how classless and racist so many of those guys are over there (before the election). I have no idea if the same outpouring of vitriol and hate would be coming forth if the political climate wasn't what it is (my guess is it wouldn't be that dissimilar), but fuck, I read that last night and had shit sleep because of how disturbing those comments were. I didn't read all of them but I couldn't believe I didn't see anyone coming to his defense.
I almost want to create a Twitter account and go over there to defend him and tell him how sorry I am he has to put up with such fucking stupidity.

I think Twitter needs to make some drastic changes. It's a real problem.
