MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
Shocked that Barney is still only 29.

Here's a real shame: Samardzija gave up 10 ER in 3 innings of work tonight to raise his ERA to 5.27 for the year. Of course, the drubbing came at the hands of the team that traded him to the White Sox, the lowly A's.

Just saw on the MLBN ticker that Shark's 2nd half era is 7.43, highest in MLB. Perhaps he is still upset that he wasn't traded to a contender at the deadline. Wonder how much that douche cost himself in free agency over this, maybe $75-100mil?

It probably won't happen, but you can envision a scenario in which the Sox make him a qualifying offer and then spring training starts with him unsigned because teams won't want to pay his FA price and give up a draft pick.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

If the Sox make him a qualifying offer he'd be wise to accept it.

I find this all quite satisfactory.

And somehow we got Russell for half a season of Shark and Hammel. Amazing.

Remember all the meatheads who were upset that we low-balled Shark by "only" offering him Homer Bailey money and then traded him for "only" 2 prospects?

Hammel has been really rough with his 2nd half splits the last 2 seasons.

2015

1st - 2.86 era, 5.83 K/W, .611 OPS

2nd - 5.43 era, 2.57 K/W, .885 OPS

2014

1st - 3.01 era, 4.12 K/W, .637 OPS

2nd - 4.31 era, 2.83 K/W, .754 OPS

All pitchers are going to lose a little something over a long season, but he clearly goes down hill.

I got nothin'.

Straily helped us get Fowler, so my mistake for overlooking him.

Milo Hamilton passed away today. Despised him as an Astros announcer. Don't really remember him as a Cubs announcer.

I remember him as a Cubs announcer as he waited to take the throne after Brickhouse was going to retire.  Well, that's when the Cubs hired Harry instead.  He was then a hateful, spiteful asshole probably until the last breath he took today.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Wasn't he pretty vocal about his hatred for Harry?
