MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)

As my cool card was lost long ago, the Royals appear to attempting to play the 'us against the world' card - which worked so well in the last year's post season - for an entire season according to ESPN's Schoenfield.

The Ken Rosenthal tweet which appears in the article notices an instigator: "Ventura vs. Trout, Ventura vs. Lawrie, Ventura vs. Eaton, Royals vs. everybody. Are we sensing a trend?"

Not going to make an attempt to defend the Sox but the Royals are screwing up.  An Buster Olney article points out that the baseball season is too damn long for there not be reprisals to bad behavior and teams including the Royals don't have surplus of talent to risk on dangerous, BS play.

Again, I don't have any excuse for the Trout thing (nor do I know what actually happened) and I don't care about the Royals at all, but it's not the Royals fault that Lawrie slid like an asshole and that gritty little Eaton shouted at Ventura. I find it amazing that Ventura is "nuts" when he shouted at Eaton for no reason to start this thing, then when we find out that Eaton actually started it by shouting at Ventura for no reason, Ventura is still "nuts" for responding. Maybe the Royals are taking the retaliation shit too far, but they aren't starting this stuff.

Ventura has started 4 games and there have been incidents - which he has been central character - in 3 of those 4 games.  He may have been egged on in 1 or 2 of the incidents but doubt if he's the innocent in all 3.

He may have a hot temper and opponents - like Eaton - being aware of his reputation egg him on so.  A dust-up occurs but eventually one of his teammates gets drilled due to his actions/reactions.

If I'm a Royals' fan, I would want Ventura to be able to better harness his emotions and stay in games.  If my a fan of teams playing the Royals, I would want players to get to Ventura's head and get him out of his game.

Remember how well the "Us vs. Them" bullshit worked out for the 2004 Cubs? That was one of the more excruciating seasons I've ever experienced. I suspect this season could play out in a similar fashion if this business doesn't stop.

The Rangers are nearing a trade to acquire Josh Hamilton, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports on Twitter. There is still plenty of legal work remaining before the deal can be finalized, but Sullivan says an announcement could come Monday.

Samardzija hit Lorenzo Cain with a pitch on Opening Day in Kansas City after Mike Moustakas had homered, and some Royals may see that as the start of bad blood that boiled over Thursday night.

<p style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:16px;background-color:transparent;color:rgb(38,37,37);">"I'm not going to get caught up in the bravo talk," Samardzija said. "We play a man's game and things happened that day. I can't speak for things that happened in the past or this or that. The way it went is the way it went.

MLB just handed down a 7 game suspension for Ventura, and 5 game suspensions for Volquez, Shark and Sale. I think they went a bit too easy on the latter 2.

Also Cain and Herrera with 2 game suspensions.

I'm a man...I'm 40!

So it appears Ben Zobrist is out 6 weeks after knee surgery. Don't know the circumstances, but another bullet dodged considering I think Theo and Jed were interested.

I'm glad I don't get shit here for wishing injuries on people.

Wainwright is a class-A douche. I hope that injury turns into full-blown AIDS somehow.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.  [Image: ITgoyeg.png]

That is truly a shame. Hopefully Molina also receives disappointing news on his recent issues.
