MLB News & Notes (other than Cubs or Sox)
I'd be shocked if their payroll got below $200 mil anytime soon with backloaded contracts and arb raises coming up. That said, Friedman was brought in to instill some spending discipline (not to stop spending altogether) AND begin to develop a more analytical organization. It can be done, and probably will look more like the Red Sox in a few years. Hopefully we will too once the money is there.

Yeah, I think Friedman in LA is aimed at having the exact same approach that Theo has had, with respect to those two fronts. When Theo has had money and had the ability the spending money that made sense (i.e. while contending), he's been all-in on developing, spending wisely and spending massively. Master all three and you can...you know...win two WS titles and build the foundation for a third after you leave.

I hate my pretentious sounding username too.

No, they don't. The Cubs need Ethier like the world needs another folk singer.

Would the Dodgers even want Jackson? Not saying that Ethier is any good at this point, but I'm struggling with any team wanting Jackson under any circumstance.

Probably not.

The Dodgers would probably do Ethier (3 years, $53.5 million plus a vesting option) for Jackson (2 years, $22 million) straight up in a heartbeat.

Yeah, but to get it done they would also need to send cash to make the dollars even out, and I don't think paying up $16 Mil/per extra (or whatever to match contract dollars) for the honor of watching Jackson put up a 5.5-6 ERA and average 4.2 IP/start is a such great deal for them. He needs to be released if viewed as a sunk cost.

Joe Maddon is opting out of his contract with the Rays.

If we were in need of a manager, Maddon would be a great catch.

I got nothin'.

Ooooook...shits getting interesting.  Probably BS though.
