Cardinals give Carpenter 6 year, $52 MM - had a breakout year and made All Star team last season. Appears that he's moving to 3rd this season to provide additional options including call up of Wong.

Defensively he's better suited for 3B, but offensively he's more a 2B. I'm sure he'll hit 30+ bombs now after the Cards trainers feed him some magic juice, so I'll probably look foolish at the end of the year.
Also, it appears the Jays will sign Ervin Santana to a 1 year $14m deal, so forget about Shark being traded there anytime soon or ever.

It now looks like Santana is mulling an offer from the O's and Blue Jays and some are saying there is a mystery team involved. I don't understand why anyone would give 14 million to Santana. Glad it isn't the Cubs.

Why would a team forfeit a draft pick to sign a player for only one year? Considering the team is forfeiting a pick, wouldn't it be smarter to go for at two or three years?

I've never understood that either. For a team not expected to contend, maybe signing and then flipping the player at the deadline for a package of players might make some sense and offer better value then the unknown of a draft pick, but for a contending team, I just don't get it.

I think the Jays pick is protected so they'll also be giving up a 2nd round pick.

They signed Nelson Cruz to a 1-year deal, and they signed Jimenez to a 4-year deal. Not sure that I'd want to forfeit my top two draft picks and cap space for signing draft picks for those three. I suppose they have to go for it while the Yankees are down and the Blue Jays are struggling.

I just saw an interview on MLB Network "Intentional talk" with Adam Wainwright. I now don't hate him, he seems like a really good dude actually. That's all.

For starters, there is no guarantee Jimenez would turn down the qualifying offer, which might be pretty hefty since they are signing him to a one year deal, and after going through what he did this winter, he probably won't be too keen on doing it again next year. So a one year 14 million dollar deal might turn into a 2 year 28-30 million dollar deal. Secondly, I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't some sort of changes to the system after what's happened the last couple of years to the players who are attached to draft picks.
I wish that I believed in Fate. I wish I didn't sleep so late. I used to be carried in the arms of cheerleaders.

This is not some silly theory that's unsupported and deserves being mocked by photos of Xena.
