Michael Young Asks to be Traded, Buy or Sell?
#1
The Texas SS has requested a move. Linko.

This could get interesting...

This was from Levine the other day:
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->The White Sox are seeking a top-of-the-order hitter, and they've discussed Michael Young with the Rangers. The Rangers asked for Jermaine Dye and Aaron Poreda, and the Sox are unwilling to trade Poreda. The Rangers like Dye, so maybe the two teams will find a match on players. Young is owed roughly $60MM over the next five years.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I love Michael Young, but for one, we can't match that offer(well we could, but it would take a bunch of players), and I don't want to deal with that contract as Young's declining. He's still a very good player, but Theriot's just fine.

You've convinced me. 60 mil and them wanting Dye AND a prospect...Greedy Texans.

Young has $80mm left on his deal over 5 years - per Cot's. I don't see them trading him for a starting OF and a SP prospect unless they (and their history indicates they might) eat a large amount of that contract.

Not impossible - but in this FA market, $80mm can get you a lot of value.

I think Texas will find that they are either going to have to eat a sizable portion of his contract or else get very little in return.

I can see Boston getting in on this though, especially if Texas is willing to take Lugo back.

He's a decent player, but he's absurdly overpriced. Absurdly. That contract is positively insane, especially considering that he's not that good a defensive SS (which is why the front office wants to move him over to 3rd.)
He did win a Palmeiro-esque Gold Glove this year, so maybe he thinks he really IS Ozzie or Visquel-like.
Theriot's just as good. And significantly cheaper.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Young said he'll consider playing second if traded. He could be a good fit even though I still prefer Roberts just because he can bat left handed.

His last two seasons have been... bad.

Some writer has suggested that the Cubs should move Soriano to the Rangers for Young. Don't want to re-type it, so it's covered here.

That is something I'd consider. Both have terrible contracts. Young can play SS or possible 2B. I'd feel more comfortable with Young hitting in the playoffs than Soriano.

the problem is that soriano can and will carry the team a few times this year. there are a lot of things to dislike about soriano, but the fact is, he's stilll a superstar and there will be a handful of times in the coming season where we'll see it and be thankful we didn't trade him. IF he can stay healthy for a full season, he's an mvp candidate for sure.

the playoffs are a different story.....

Young won the GG this past season. They just think their top prospect Elvis Andrus is ready, and he's a SS.

Plus Young's past two season weren't...ya know...bad
If Angelo had picked McClellin, I would have been expecting to hear by training camp that kid has stage 4 cancer, is actually 5'2" 142 lbs, is a chick who played in a 7 - 0 defensive scheme who only rotated in on downs which were 3 and 34 yds + so is not expecting to play a down in the NFL until the sex change is complete and she puts on another 100 lbs. + but this is Emery's first pick so he'll get a pass with a bit of questioning. - 1060Ivy

Yeah he's still a very good player. I'm actually writing about this on the blog right now. He's going to end up staying and playing 3rd it looks like. His power's just declining a bit and that will scare off any potential suitors since they'd be paying over 12 mil per until he's 37.

96 OPS+ last year is technically on the "bad" side of the bell curve.
