QUOTE One industry source said it's a "strong possibility" that Hill will wind up with the Orioles, perhaps as early as next week. The Orioles will likely give up a player to be named who could be contingent on Hill's success in Baltimore.
"We are talking to them," Orioles club president Andy MacPhail said about the Cubs. "We are talking to a lot of teams about a lot of players."
The Cubs have spoken to several teams about Hill, including the Seattle Mariners, but a source said the Orioles are in the lead to land the lefty. The Orioles would have to shuffle their 40-man roster, which is currently full.

I don't. I want them to get what they can for Hill and ditch the scene with the loot. I don't want them waiting around for Hill to blow up.

You can't get anything for this guy right now, that's the problem. If he does well, they'll get a good prospect in return. If he doesn't they'll get the same shit player they would right now.

The way I see it, there's some value because of the upside Rich Hill has. If they were to make a straight up trade, they could probably get a middling prospect that probably doesn't amount to much. If Hill tanks for them in this deal, we get a worse player, and if he does very well, we could get someone lower on their prospect rankings.
So, all in all I guess it's a good thing. I'm just not very confident that Hill can turn things around so quickly. He had an UGLY winter league line. I still think he could turn out to be Marquis-esque type pitcher in terms of production, but it's going to take a while.

I think if they could get a decent prospect at all he'd have already been dealt. Everybody in baseball knows this guy is a complete headcase and the chances are very slim he turns it around, especially anytime soon. He'll already be 29 when the season starts, so teams don't want to sit there and wait a couple years for him to get it back together. The Cubs either get absolutely nothing for him when he walks in 2 months, or they deal him for a shitty prospect now. I like this deal in that it's a chance we get a top 30 prospect from the O's system if Hill turned it around. I wouldn't want this headache in my organization and it's no surprise 2 of the worst teams in baseball are the ones interested in him.

Just get rid of him. I don't mind this type of deal, as we have no chance of getting anything useful for Hill as is, so at least there's the possibility of getting a decent prospect if things work out. Roll the dice.

I remember the discussion on how we should sell high. Buy high, sell low, that's how Hendry rolls. Except for DRoll

A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo. When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
