In a bubble, no. However, a middle consisting of Theriot, Miles/Fontenot, and Fuk/Johnson scares me. I'd like to have at least one elite fielder in there.

i think fuk/johnson is above average and the riot/the font is serviceable. soto is above average. i have no problem with any of them....especially if they hit.

I refuse to believe he's a good fielder until I see him do a backflip.

In CF, there's no way Fuk/Johnson is above average. Theriot is not above average. Miles/Fontenot is not above average. As a group, the middle of our defensive alignment is gonna be bottom 1/3 in the MLB.

i didn't say the riot or the font are above average, but i do think are average, fuk/johnson are gonna be just fine. as a group i think they'll be just about in the middle.

Middle is their ceiling, I can see them being well below that though.

Giants offered Aurilia a minor league deal...
QUOTE "With the uncertain state of things and the way baseball is looking, there are a lot of guys settling for minor-league offers," Aurilia said. "It's something we're mulling over. We're trying to counter-proposal them a little bit and see what we can come up with."
Aurilia believes he would be a good fit on an infield that primarily is young.
"To have someone like me would be of value to them," he said. "Hopefully we can iron out a few things. I'm hoping to nail this down."

Unless Hendry has something else in mind, we need to stop fucking around and sign Nomar or Aurilia.

I do wonder if he even plans on replacing Cedeno. Maybe that's why he wants Fontenot to re-familiarize himself with SS.
I kind of agree with ruby, that (with regards to fielding) our middle is gonna be a little weak:
SS-Theriot is below avg
2B-Font rated at well above avg last year, but many of you say he's not that good.
C-Soto calls a good game, relates very well with the pitching staff, and obviously can rake...but his actual C defense seems avg, maybe slightly above.
CF-Reed Johnson-below average. Solid, but not a great arm, and mediocre range.
CF-Fuk-we don't even really know if he can play it full-time. It's been years since he has, and he's said he doesn't like playing there. He's a damn good fielder though, with a good arm...I think he'd be slightly above avg, making the Fuk/Reed platoon about avg.
Like Rube said, I think the ceiling is "average."
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

Something to keep in mind - if and when we carry 12 pitchers early in the season that only leaves room for 5 guys on the bench:
Bako/Hill/Backup C
Johnson
Miles/Fontenot
Gathright
Aurilia type? Hoffpauir?
The top 4 seem to be guaranteed spots. If we sign another backup infielder that means Hoff has no place on the roster.
This is why carrying a guy like Gathright on the roster is questionable (at best) for me. I'd rather have someone like Hoffpauir to provide some pop from the left side off the bench than a guy whose only real skill is that he's really fast.

Just something interesting. MLB Network has Aurelia as a 1B. Is he always listed as that?

That's where he's played the most the last few years, with 3b being next. He's pretty much a corner infielder that could probably play SS and 2b in an emergency, but he doesn't have the range to play at either much anymore.
