Um... Zambrano is Pitching in the WBC?

Nothing on this this morning. Probably a misquote or a misunderstanding. Hopefully anyway.

Comcast Sportsnet had a list of Cubs that were going to play in the WBC last night. Zambrano was not on the list. It sure seems like all signs are pointing to that report being bogus.

From Rotoworld

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Carlos Zambrano told reporters Monday that his shoulder has felt fine so far this spring.

"Physically, I feel the best I've ever felt in spring training," Zambrano said, after throwing to a group of hitters. "I'm not a rookie. I know what to do and I know my job here is to get ready." He spent the offseason strengthening his shoulder in the hopes of avoiding a second half like last year. He went 4-3 with a 5.80 ERA in 12 starts down the stretch.

Zambrano is on the WBC roster. Link to roster here. Doesn't mean he'll play, but it's possible. Seems like a waste of a spot on the roster if there's zero chance he plays.

I wish I was actually in the Chicago media so I could be reporting this shit to a wider audience, and you know, actually having access to ask someone on the team.

Yeah. Someday I hope/plan to look more into it, but I don't think any bloggers have real, meaningful access to the team right now.

Yeah, I mean I bet if you keep this up you're going to get some radio interview opportunities and some great stuff like that, but to be around the actual team... it's pretty damn tough. At ITI which is a part of Scout.com(which is really popular and associated with Fox Sports), they can only get access with the minor league teams. There's just so many blogs that if they started handing out media passes to some, it might start a circus. Still, keep this going and you can be considered a popular source to Cubs fans and hopefully get credible people like Neyer citing it more. That's what's happened with MLBTR. Dierkes does a shitload of radio interviews, blog interviews, and is considered very credible around the web by people surrounding the game.

Ace, If a newspaper like The Daily Herald offered you a position as Cubs beat reporter would you take it? The salary would probably be less than $40K.

I wouldn't seek it out (in case my current employer ever peruses - emphasis: I would NOT seek it out), but if they offered, I'd think about it. Relocating would be a problem, though.
