Don't get me wrong, I think he's being sincere, but I just think he's jumping the gun on how he's going to feel in 4-5 years. The man changes his mind and disposition with just about every start.

i don't think he's being sincere at all. i think he's full of shit and that he'll play another 10 years barring injury. he's mad right now because of all the media scrutiny he's getting from the suspension and the missed flight so he's talking shit. it's carlos being carlos and he ain't going nowhere. not in 3 years, not in 6 years, not in 9 years.

A lot of players, in almost all sports, have said that they were going to retire young. Have any ever done it? Even MJ came back <i>twice</i>. Koufax was in so much agony that he almost had to retire.
I can't think of anyone ever quitting in his prime because he was homesick.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

That's a pretty good example, I must admit. But there was some serious bad blood between Sanders and the Lions, whereas Z always speaks very highly of both Hendry and the Cubs.
Also, Sanders played running back in the NFL for 10 years, which is an eternity for that position (especially when you're averaging over 300 rushes per season.)
Needless to say, I hope Z stays on the Cubs till 2019, at least.
Can't he use some of that $95 million to fly his mom in for Mother's Day?

Agreed.
Z has enough money through endorsements alone to have his family live in Chicago. If he can make time for himself on his birthday, why can't get make the time to fly out his mum at least?

NFL running backs take a serious pounding. Brown played 9 years. Gale Sayers also quit very young, though like Koufax, it was mostly for health reasons.

How awesome is it that a person can dominate a sport so badly that they can retire as the best that's ever played and just be like "Uhh... I'm gonna go play baseball now." then come back and win 3 more Championships? I love that man.

i hated the fact that he played for the white sox. he's a hero, but that will always be in the back of my mind. his legacy is tarnished for me, just a tad.
