Guzman

He has a long history of arm injuries. Then news surfaces prior to his last outing that he's kinda hurting again. So Lou pitches him 2 innings, and then promptly sticks him on the DL.

I realize that pitchers were at a premium after using 3 in one inning, but given Guzman's history, doesn't it seem foolish to push him to 2 innings if you already know he was hurting coming in? Or does the win matter more than sustaining the most consistent pitcher in your bullpen?
I got nothin'.

I've always felt that we were playing with borrowed time in regards to Guzman.
He was always one pitch from being out for the year, so anything good we got out of him is a plus.

I don't think it's serious, but I agree that Lou overused him last time out and all season as well.

I think they made up an injury just so Lou wasn't forced to use him much like the other day in extra innings. They probably told him to put his feet up for two weeks and have a couple of cold ones for the good work he's put in.

I agree with this. The whole pen was overworked and they needed a fresh arm with no off day today. Given his history on injuries, it makes the most sense to rest Guzman for a while. Lou indicated that if everyone else wasn't overworked they probably would have kept him active but they couldn't afford to.

That seems a bit on the extreme side - if you want to just rest him for a few days, you rest him for a few days. You don't make your best reliever thus far completely unavailable for two weeks.

That said, he's obviously not hurt very badly, as Lou has said if there was a 5-day DL, he probably would have used that one.
