The Cards are also going after Matt Holliday or Jermaine Dye. If they get one of those guys to go along with DeRosa, it will put them over the top. DeRosa will help more than you think.

Actually, I think this move greatly diminishes their interest in those guys.

How can they afford either of those two?

I don't think they can, I think getting DeRosa is their move from the offensive side.

I think Holliday is out of the question, but I could definitely see KW pretty much handing over Dye to the Cards just so they'd have a better shot to take the Cubs down.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

That's not reality either. As much as KW appears to hate the Cubs, he's not doing that either. It'd have to be a package that blows him away too, Dye's gonna be a type A FA.

No GM is giving anyone away in this market, unless his name is Jim Hendry.
But seriously, this does suck a fat one, but I'm already kind of over it. I expected one of our division rivals to acquire DeRo, so this is no surprise.
I just hope this blows up in the Cards' faces in some way.

And I would take Sanchez, Wigginton, Teahen or Perez in that order in a heartbeat. We need something to jolt this team out of complacency.

Something to keep in mind, rubes: I think things are changing with regards to free agents. Teams are going to be much less likely to offer arbitration - especially to aging guys - for fear that they'll accept and get way more money than they would on the market. And guys are going to be much more likely to accept for the same reason.

If somebody would have told me back around Christmas that we'd give away DeRosa for a few weak minor-leaguers, and then a few months later, he'd be plugging a massive hole playing for the 1st place Cardinals, I would have punched somebody.
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

I don't know about the others, but Jeff Stevens has done rather well so far in Iowa. He had a rough patch recently, but overall he's been playing quite well. He could be a solid reliever/closer down the line.

Gaub and Archer may even be better.
It was a good return for DeRosa... IF DeRosa HAD to be dealt. And therein lies the problem.
He didn't.
