Dempster to disabled list with broken toe

By Paul Sullivan

Just when things were getting back to normal, the Cubs just announced tonight's starter, Ryan Dempster, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken big right toe.

No word yet on how Dempster incurred the injury. Carlos Zambrano will start tonight in on three days rest in Dempster's place.

Kevin Hart was recalled from Triple-A Iowa, and will start tomorrow's finale against the Braves.

More later.

Yep, awful timing. Z will go on short rest tonight, Hart tomorrow, Harden Friday, Lilly Saturday, then I assume Wells the early game Sunday, Z the late game. I'd be thrilled to go 3-3 the rest of this week, especially with Carpenter and Wainwright looming this weekend.

And this is why the team needs another lefty in the pen. Marshall was the perfect swing man.

Is Hart really our best starter at AAA right now? Cause that's terrifying.

And Stoney said on Twitter that it's believed to be non-baseball related. I figured it was on his kick save last start, but maybe not. It would make sense if it just happened today because they probably wouldn't have, you know, sent Hart down yesterday.

It's not really about who is the best starter but who can go tonight.

Stone now says he thinks it's a 4-6 week injury. Son of a bitch. Things look great one day, our team is healthy, then we lose a key piece the next day. Sigh.

Do we have another Randy Wells down on the farm somewhere? Too bad Atkins decided to suck this year.

Marshall needs to go back to the rotation. Fuck the lefty in the pen.

Well now you have to get Marshall stretched out again, but that won't happen overnight. You don't pitch to 1-3 batters 4 times a week and then all of a sudden go out and throw 5+ innings the next.
