I'm not sure why you're so upset about this. He's a center fielder, he doesn't need to put up monster numbers.
If he signs here for 7+million per year and/or for more than 2 years, then I will be pissed. Right now, it's just talk though.
Did you have someone else in mind for the outfield?

Milton Bradley.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Just can't see Bradley back in a Cubs uniform.
Yeah, Bradley is the best player available but he was the best free agent available last year to be the middle of the order RBI guy. Unfortunately, we find that he is a top of the order guy who is the PR equivalent of a baby seal killing, pedophile.
My expectations are so low that I'm expect Sam Fuld and Rick Ankiel in CF next year.

Byrd is the ultimate "meh", especially when you see his stats away from Texas the last 3 years. Still, some guys just hit way better at home regardless of the park, so who knows. Anyway, he'll be overpaid from somebody... likely us.
Fukudome
Theriot
Lee
Ramirez
Soto
Soriano
Byrd
Baker/Fontenot
If that's the group, it really shows how much we need Soto to rebound and Soriano to be healthy. Oh, and Babe Theriot. For all of the hoopla over his "power", his slugging percentage was only 10 points higher than 08, while his on-base percentage was 44 points lower.
This is interesting as well. Marlon Byrd:

Dudes, give up on the Bradley thing. He will not come back. It won't happen. Ever. Forget it. If the Cubs can't find a trade partner then they will let him go. I heard on the radio the other day that his teammates applauded when he was suspended. Let that sink in, THEY APPLAUDED. He's done as a Cub, forever.
And if Marlon Byrd is a 4th outfielder, then Sam Fuld is a 5th outfielder. Fuck Sam Fuld.

Yep. I know Dempster said they would accept him back but that is Dempster. Probably the nicest and most understanding guy on the team. At the end of the season Ramirez and Z had nothing nice to say about Bradley. Apology or not I don't even think most Cub fans would accept him back. It would get really ugly really fast. I know a lot of people think the best thing would be to bring him back and in a perfect world they are probably right. The problem is this situation is far from perfect.

I see what you guys are saying, but if they can't trade him, there's no way they are going to pay him to not play. If they can't unload him, there will be lots of team meetings and conferences and all that shit, and then they will make a go of it.

If Bradley does not come back (I know Tom, HE'S NOT!) what do people expect to be his replacement realistically? Not what you would do if you were king or what you think the Cubs could/should do. Of the realistic options the Cubs would go with, which do you guys think is the best one?
Personally, I would be very happy with a good glove and an OBP of .350 out of our centerfielder. I think Fuld can do that. Add in a right handed hitter to face tough lefties like Reed or Rocco Baldelli and I think we could get some good production from center field.

If we also had a solid platoon-mate for Fuk in right, that wouldn't be the absolute worst thing in the universe.
But give it up - when Jim Hendry gets a guy in his head, he gets him.
Marlon Byrd it is.
