I sort of wanted the Cubs to take a risk on Pedro. Oh well.
Pedro to sign with Philly....

I was slightly intrigued, but I have a feeling the Phils won't be happy with what they get.

Pedro was utter trash last season and has yet to throw harder than 85 mph in workouts this year. This signing has disaster written all over it.

If Pedro had been open to the bullpen option during spring training, I would have liked to see him as a 2 inning closer working a regular schedule (every 3 to 5 days) but he wanted to start for a playoff contending team and was not better than our 5th option at that time.
Current rumor are that Pedro will make around $2 MM for the remainder of the year and has thrown in the 88 - 89 mph range but with good placement and movement. He is never going to be Pedro of old but might turn out better than the September 2008 Pedro who gave up 31 hits in 22 innings.

Does this mean that Philly won't go after Halladay, and if so are the Cards seriously going to make a run?

The Cardinals don't have the prospects to get Halladay, unless they're willing to trade guys like Rasmus, Boggs, and the like.

The Dodgers are apparently considering trading Russel Martin, who is Canadian, and some key prospects. I think whoever makes the deal will give up someone that makes you drop your jaw at least a little.

I can't tell you how much I'd hate to see Halladay in a Cardinal uniform. Not only would it probably cost us a playoff spot this year, but you just know they'd sign him to a long-term deal.
I know that we don't necessarily need a guy like Halladay, but I think we should try to at least make an offer, if only to cockblock St. L
There's nothing better than to realize that the good things about youth don't end with youth itself. It's a matter of realizing that life can be renewed every day you get out of bed without baggage. It's tough to get there, but it's better than the dark thoughts. -Lance

He's one of my favorite non-Cubs right now and seeing him go to the Cards would be painful. Especially because you know he would destory us on a regular basis.

It's not only the prospects which would be an issue for the Cardinals but taking on the salary. If the Cards don't trade for Roy, does Fat Albert leave the team at the end of his contract since the Cards organization can't get him a better supporting caste? Hey, a guy can hope.

Pedro signs for $1 MM for this year and promptly goes to the 15 day DL

Hard for me to imagine the Blue Jays trading Halladay within the division. But maybe Boston is willing to give up a ton.

Boston is the team that needs him the least. And the Yankees have already said they have no interest. So Boston wouldn't need to cock block NYY. However, any team would benefit from picking up a Halladay, so I guess its possible.
