I'm actually surprised that he gave up 9 homers in that era. Winning 36 games for a lousy team is pretty good pitching, though.
You can see why he was especially tough to hit for right-handed batters; not only was he the fastest pitcher in the game, but he came in at you with a sweeping sidearm motion.
