I've been listening to Pat and Ron a lot lately. Either at work or in the car on on my iPhone.
Anyway, is it just me or has Ron gotten a lot worse this season? He's never been a good color guy, but there are times where it seems like he has no idea where he is. Or he'll react to a play at least 10 or 20 seconds after it happens. And his choice of responses seems to have been whittled down to:
- Yessir!
- No!
- All right!
- Ahh geez!
- GAH!
I love the man with a passion, but he's been beyond brutal this season.

I mean, he's getting old. I haven't listened to more than the few highlights of big plays this year from them, but I keep hearing that from people. Still, I can't say anything negative about the man. He can talk about fish sticks and unicorns for all I care.

Agreed. Given his rapidly deteriorating health during the past few seasons, I think WGN needs to gradually move him to part-time status. I was truly impressed with the job that Moreland did in the booth recently. I'd like to see him or another ex-Cub get the full-time job, and keep Ron around to do interviews and other random things like the stretch. I think it would be a win-win.

I also hear Ron being more and more amused by seemingly innocuous things (A made-up example: Wow, Pat, a Cardinal just flew by the booth! And we're playing the Cardinals!" Then, three innings later, "Boyohboy, a Cardinal!"). It seems like Pat is often trying to entertain him as much as work with him.

Ron has always been clueless, and I will always love him. When I listen to the unemotional, dry radio broadcasts of other teams it only reinforces my love.

Today during the 7th, Ron asks Pat who is pitching for the Astros
Pat tells him that it is Bud Norris (who has been in since the 5th)
Ron wonders aloud why his is not not on Ron's list of players
Pat has to explain that this is his major league debut.

I think with his health and all, that he has to step away from the mic more often than not. When he gets back, instead of using less than obvious ways of catching up to speed he just straight out asks Pat on the air. I think this adds to the perception of his cluelessness.
Some men are born mediocre, some men achieve mediocrity, and some men have mediocrity thrust upon them.

Santo spelled backwards is O - T - N - A - S
Fat Bastard is an immensely obese, hardly able to walk (weighing a metric ton) gardener and henchman hailing from Scotland. His extreme size endows Fat Bastard with super-human strength as exhibited by his prowess in the Sumo ring from Goldmember. This makes him a formidable enemy for Austin Powers. Fat Bastard is noted for his foul temper, his frequent flatulence, his vulgar and revolting bad manners and his unusual eating habits, which include taste for Human infants (which he calls "the other other white meat") or anything that looks like a baby, e.g. small people. Fat Bastard has been a regular at Cub games since the early 80's when he tried several times (unsuccessfully) to eat the visiting San Diego Chicken.

My only concern with slowly removing Ron from the broadcast is that I believe without having the radio job in his life, he'd waste away very quickly.
It's kind of like people who work until they're 67-68 and then retire and within 2 years pass away. They just don't know what to do with themselves without work.
I got nothin'.

Ron is plain awful. They should reassign him to something else in the Organization. Make he feel useful, but get him the hell out of the radio booth.

Just make him the mascot, have him sing the 7th inning stretch and do 1 inning on the radio.
