I'm not happy about it either.

I think it will hurt us slightly, but he wasn't playing much and when he has, he's sucked this season. The main area where it will hurt is his value as a defensive replacement more than anything, and Fuld can do a good job there.

Neither am I. He came into today(and went 1 for 2 today) hitting .300 against lefties with a .832 OPS. We're not going to find anybody else to do that in replacement.

Actually, I'd rather go with Taguchi than Fuld.

Fuld is the better defender, no?

Fuld is my homeboy, but I'm not sure about him facing LHP.

BTW, Sam's on his way up. He's not playing in Omaha tonight.

Is that for sure? They're facing a lefty tonight, so he might not play regardless.

I'm not sure but my dad in Omaha called me to say so...I just assumed the announcers said that was the word. maybe not.

Looks like your dad was right:
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Outfielder Sam Fuld, a lefthanded hitter, is expected to be called up from Triple-A Iowa to take Johnson's roster spot. With the Cubs facing right-handers in at least six of their next seven games against Houston, Florida and Cincinnati, they might be able to get by for a while without making a move.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Florida's Cody Ross, with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs, would be a good fit if the Marlins decide to move him. The Marlins are in the NL wild card-hunt, though they considered trading the righthanded-hitting Ross to Atlanta before the Braves acquired Pittsburgh's Nate McLouth.
Hendry has about $2 million to $3 million to spend if he needs it, team sources said. He also is looking for a left-handed reliever to complement Sean Marshall, with Washington's Joe Beimel and Pittsburgh's John Grabow atop his list.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

I'm not saying that I am glad about this, but Fuld's numbers are better then Johnson's this year. I realize it's a small sample size and that Fuld doesn't really fit in a platoon, but losing Reed is not going to destroy this team.

Small? Insignificant, I'd say...as a basis for calling him better than Reed. I'm crazy about both of them. I love watching these kind of gamers play defense. Reed's been better at the plate and will be again. Fuld is just too new to hang one's hat on. I hope he IS better. It's just to early to know.

I didn't say he is better, I said he's been better. Reed hasn't looked very good all year and there was a thread about his decline just a couple of days ago.
I'm just saying, compared to most of the injuries we have had this year, this is pretty insignificant.
