Now I'm excited to get him. This should be fun.

I hope it's more fun than Neil Cocks.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
So you'd really just rather not take him? He was AWFUL last year, 1 season. He's pitched just 9 games this year out of the pen, and is dominating in AAA back as a starter. I don't understand how people wouldn't love this gamble. I'd much rather take a chance on a left-handed pitcher that just turned 27 and was one of the best starters in the league just 2 seasons ago.

I don't care if they hate my entire family and call me a flaming douchebag all day, if they can help the Cubs win ballgames, I want them on the fucking team.
<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I don't compromise when it comes to my convictions.

Fuck Gorzelanny.

3B Josh Harrison is the other minor leaguer.

If he didn't stink so badly, I might make an exception, but I can't overlook his past.

So do you think we will use Gorzelanny as a starter, now that Hart is gone, or as a reliever and let Marshall start ?

Nevermind. Didn't read through the whole thread. I don't see how anybody could not like this deal for the crap we gave up.

I'd have to guess Gorzelanny, just because he's stretched out and Marshall isn't.
The thing you need to remember is that all Cardinals fans and all White Sox fans are very bad people. It's a fact that has been scientifically proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Being a Cubs fan is the only path to rightousness and piousness. Cardinal and White Sox fans exist to be the dark, diabolical forces that oppose us. They are the yin to our yang, the Joker to our Batman, the demon to our angel, the insurgence to our freedom, the oil to our water, the club to our baby seal. Their happiness occurs only in direct conflict with everything that is pure and good in this world.

Trading for middle relief is always questionable.

But he's been pitching as a 26-year-old or younger in the majors with one awesome full season under his belt already. And he's kicking ass in the minors, more than Hart or Ascanio have. He's just 5 months older than Hart even.

Kevin Goldstein: This is the first of the Pirates trades that I do NOT like for them.

I almost forgot how ugly he is. I don't think this is a bad deal. Hart and Ascanio are both big "mehs" to me.

The more I think about it, the more I like it. Unless Kevin Hart really improves his control, he's not going to be more than a fill-in starter, blah reliever. He's got some heat and has decent stuff, but he misses the catcher's target about every pitch.

Ascanio's got some filthy stuff and can be a good setup man, maybe starter. Where does he really fit in for us though? Gregg, Marmol, Guzman, Stevens has looked damn impressive, Shark can be very good there, then guys like Cashner in the minors. He deserves a chance with somebody and I think will be a productive major leaguer, but he'd have a hard time really finding a role with us anyway. He's pitching well as a starter, maybe he keeps that up but I don't see him being as effective in that role.

And Josh Harrison... everything I've read makes it seems like he's a solid little player, but he's a 3rd baseman. We have Aramis, Vitters, and can even throw Fox into the mix. We're a big market team and it's a corner position, I doubt this dude was ever a potential starter for us there.
