Kruk: Dempster for Closer
#16
If we have to move anyone to the closer spot, it should be Harden.

Bingo. We now find ourselves with too many SPs anyway. The only problem I see with this is that it is a contract year for him, and he's been much better lately.

Yeah with the success recently of Harden, I dont seem that possible.
However, he should be at the top of the list.

I think dempster is better pitching in the rotation but if the cubs make the playoffs i wouldnt mind him moving to the closer role. Although didnt demp have a problem with switching between roles at one time? He has experience and as was pointed out he had some pretty nice success at one point closing. Also i think his changeover success from going from the bullpen to rotation had a lot to do with him getting in better shape if if remember correctly.

Don't forget his little glove flip maneuver.

One guy whose name I have never heard for closer is Sean Marshall. I think he could also be considered.

I don't think Marshall's stuff is dominant enough. He doesn't seem to have a consistent out pitch either. Marmol should be made the closer. I don't have the stats to support it, but it always seems that Marmol pitches better when he comes in with the lead, rather than when he comes in with the score tied or the Cubs down.
