Wow. This one sort of left me speechless. Absolutely brutal movie. I'd say the title was a bit misleading. Great cast, Naomi Watts is guiltily hot. I'd go into the plot, but I'm not sure I can recommend the movie. It was well crafted, did EXACTLY what it wanted to do, but when it's said and done, I can't imagine anyone would be entertained by it. There was at least one thing that happened that I really really did not see coming.

So if you are into unpleasant nihilism, with a great cast make sure you check this one out!

yeah, all the actors were really good, as i remember, and the story too, the way they executed the plot. not as cookie cutter as i thought it would be by a long shot. not for everyone though, like you said
Life is a bitch, but she's totally doable.

I saw the original. Had very mixed feelings about it, and then got a copy of the U.S. version and just haven't gotten around to comparing the two. From all I've read, this is pretty much a shot for shot remake. Same director as well.

I mean the entire exercise plays out like some sort of social science experiment, but it isn't being conducted on the characters. It's being conducted on the viewer. The ending left me with an empty feeling. Maybe that was the intent. I don't know.

One movie I did like from the same director, Michael Haneke, is called Cache. It plays off of similar themes, but I thought it was more of a traditional film with a well-crafted story. The ending didn't ruin the experience for me either. I'd recommend that and not Funny Games.

Did the original break the 4th wall? Was there a crucial scene involving a remote control rewind? I think I have Cache, I just haven't watched it yet.

Yes to the first part. And definitely watch Cache. It was one of the better films I've seen in the past few years.
