As the manager? That would be very interesting with respect to Sandberg. Presumably he comes up to Chicago as a bench coach, and then takes over in 2011?

Um. What? I never said as the manager. I'd presume as the hitting coach, which was his former role. And as far as I know there hasn't been any discussion of having Sandberg be anything but Tennessee's manager next year.

Um. No need for the douchey um. That was why it was a question.
Edit: And I know nothing has been decided about Sandberg. That was me speculating.

I'm just saying, your post took several leaps in conclusions based on nothing.

There's also no reason to believe that Trammell won't be a candidate for the managerial job next year, and that's a spot for whoever the manager wants. So no reason to think Sandberg would be bench coach.

And I'm just saying it was full of non-conclusions. It had a question, and a speculation ("presumably"). Leaps, of course. Conclusions? None.

Sure there's a reason. The same reasoning that you just gave with Trammell. If the Cubs think Sandberg is the manager of the future - which, regardless of his HOF player status, he's a rising star in the managerial ranks - they may want him as a bench coach with the big club (or some other coaching capacity, like hitting instructor as the article suggests). Is there a limit on bench coaches?

Yes. There's a limit on the number of coaches that a team can have in uniform. There's been nothing from the Cubs to indicate that they think Sandberg is the manager of the future or a shoo-in for the job in 2011.

Nothing other than his promotion from Peoria to Tennessee, and then subsequent award of manager of the year?

I gotta step back - fantasy team is sucking today, and I'm unnecessarily gruff.

The latter is meaningless. 1 out of 4 gets that every year (given the short seasons, I'm guessing nobody below Peoria ever gets it). This is his 3rd season in the minors, so controlling for everything, you'd think he'd have a 75% chance of winning it once. This year, only 2 teams made the postseason, so there's a pretty good chance it would be 1 out of 2.
As for the former, you're reading a ton into it if you think that is evidence that he will be the 2011 manager.

Maybe. I should add the additional piece of what I'm considering: he has repeatedly stated his aspiration to be a MLB manager. Like it or lump it, that will carry some weight with the Cubs.

Of course it will. But just because he wants to be the manager doesn't mean he'll get it. The Cubs haven't gone into a season with a rookie manager since 1975.
I think Sandberg and Trammell are about even right now to get the job. If we have a good season next year, Trammell's got to be the favorite.

Looks like Joshua will be the only member of the coaching staff not returning. Sandberg's name is getting some speculation as the next hitting coach.
