The Road
#1
I was hesitant to see The Road because I loved the book so much and I had a hard time imagining a good movie coming from it. But I saw it Tuesday night and thought it was good. A lot of the scenery looked exactly what I pictured in my head as I read the book. Viggio turned in a fantastic performance and there were many absolutely heartbreaking scenes.

It wasn't a perfect film, by any means, but it's worth seeing -- especially if you're a fan of the book.

So... was it true to the book, or did they embellish the story as it appears in the trailers?

Completely true to the book. There is no news footage showing the cause of the earth's demise. I don't know why they added that stuff in the trailer.

Probably just to trick people into thinking it was an action movie to drum up interest and sell tickets. Wouldn't be the first time a trailer was blatantly misleading.

I still want to see this, despite the mixed reviews.

Having never read the book, I'd guess I might like it more?

My biggest complaint is that the film doesn't maintain a heavy sense of tension throughout like the book did (at least for me). I'm not sure how I would have done it differently, though.

It really was an effective film, though -- and it probably deserves to be seen on the big screen. There are some impressive visuals.

I've become a totally sentimental sap since having kids, and I'm surprised at how often I find myself crying during movies now. I cried during three different scenes in this one. Part of it was how effective and convincing Viggio was. He really turned in an amazing performance.

I'm not sure if that's true, actually. I'd be interested to hear from someone who has seen the film and hasn't read the book.
