Has anyone read any Nelson Algren books? I know he's an "important" Chicago author and his writing is supposed to capture the underside of the city really well (at least the city during the era he lived). A few people have recommended him to me, but I just haven't gotten around to checking him out.
I'm planning on reading Man with the Golden Arm at some point this year, but I wanted to see if anyone else has read his stuff...
