Cubs sign 5 of 8 arb guys: Fontenot (1M), Baker (975K), Guzman (825K), Gorzelanny (800K), Hill (700K). Theriot, Marmol, Marshall left.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Gorzelanny for 800k isn't terrible in my opinion.
Thoughts?

4.2 mil for 5 players isn't the end of the world, but Theriot and Marmol will get pricey. I can't imagine Marshall getting a huge bump though.

I wish I could make a million dollars to suck as bad as Mike Fontenot.

Guzman for 825 is pretty good too. Low risk, high potential reward...either on the bump or in trade.

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Carlos Marmol requested $2.5 million from the Cubs and was offered $1.75 million when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday. Marmol was superb in the closer's role last season but not so great in setup duty behind Kevin Gregg. He now has the gig to himself and should flourish in the role while making a little over $2 million.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Sean Marshall asked for $1.175 million and was offered $800,000 from the Cubs when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday. Marshall is still in a state of limbo with the Cubs, fighting to establish himself as a starter but spending most of his time in the bullpen. He had a 4.32 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 85 1/3 innings last season while earning the league minimum. This is his first year of arbitration eligibility.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->
<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->Ryan Theriot asked for $3.4 million and was offered $2.6 million from the Cubs when arbitration figures were exchanged Tuesday. Shortstop prospect Starlin Castro is breathing down his neck, but Theriot should handle starting shortstop duties for most of the 2010 season. He hit .284/.343/.369 with seven home runs and 54 RBI last year.<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

Fuck me running if Theriot is worth anywhere near $3.5 M.

I bet Fangraphs says he is earning that salary.
