Silva could be in mid season form.
He has given up 2 HRs - a 2 run and a 3 run.
Sox 6 - 0 in the top of the 2nd.

Wow.... does Silva suck. Only took three batters for me to already hate him.

Forgive me if I don't believe that the Nady scratch is meaningless.

Theriot's arm is really, really weak.
But you already knew that.

Silva's awesome.

Hendry said a curious thing, probably an accident: Xavier Nady will "start out" on the bench as a platoon type guy "until his arm gets better." The implication there is that he'd be a starter later... over whom?

Can't imagine anyone other Fukudome right? I hate listening to GMs talk...I mean I understand they have to do it but its always such a propaganda speech.

I played high school ball with this Jeff Kennard guy. He got fat. And bad at baseball.

I will say that I liked what I saw out of Theriot and Soto at the plate today. Theriot didn't have that "I'm gonna blast this bitch" leg kick that he had for much of last year. Just a nice compact swing and hit a couple of singles. Turned on one for a rocket single into left, and then took a pitch through the right side like he used to do all the time. Soto's weight loss is very evident. He was taking good swings and moved noticeably well on a foul pop up by the dugout. That's the fastest I've ever seen him go after one of those. He crushed a single off the pitcher's body that deflected all the way into left field in the air and added another single. Them returning anything close to their 2007 form is going to be needed.
Soriano also looked comfortable swinging the bat. And Marmol looked sensational. So there were a few positives.

Don't try to get all positive now, Clapp. You've already convinced me... we're fucked. This is a significantly worse team on paper than it was at this point last year. I know paper isn't everything, but last year's team sucked.

Well, we are probably around 90 wins at least with a healthy squad last year. Add in most of the team doing worse than career averages, and it could've been much better. I know we're already affected by injuries now, but the team is -capable- of being very good. It's just a shit ton of things have to go right. But, they did in 2007, so who knows. Still I'm not liking our chances too much. Yes, I'm already on a crazy emotional roller coaster with this team.

I think you learn less than nothing about a club in the early ST games. But as far as Silva goes, no new discovery from yesterday. Had he been effective - that would have been news.
I understand the need to move MB...but IMHO Silva is a negative, not a positive. I would not be surprised if the Cubs just release him and eat whatever is sitting on that deal. Or if they send him to some other franchise, pay most of it, and get some sort of low end reliever or relief prospect. |
