Well, you'd have to think Grabow is the main setup man for at least the first few weeks of the season. I doubt they're going to immediately throw Caridad or Berg into an 8th inning role. And Grabow was effective against right-handed hitters last year anyway, allowing just a .238 batting average and .698 OPS.

Unless they want to use him as a left handed specialist. Grabow is better against right handed batters after all.

It's not like we have 3 loogies in there or anything like that. Marshall and Grabow are effective against LH and RH hitters. Russell, I have no idea, but as long as we aren't wasting spots in the pen for situational specialists, it could be a lot worse. The bullpen doesn't make me feel all that confident, but the balance is just fine.

Well they might later on in the year(maybe even late April if say Caridad is dominating), but I can't see them throwing a rookie right into an 8th inning role.

Edit: Oh wait, were you talking about Russell? I'm confused.

Yep, talking about Russell being the left handed specialist out of the pen. Normally that would be Grabow, especially in late innings. But if he struggles against lefties. perhaps in the 7th or 8th if a tough lefty comes up they throw him in the fire. Maybe not right away, but that might be the plan for why he was kept.

I have a feeling Russell is going to be the guy Lou never uses this year. Lou is dumb and uses Grabow against lefties despite the fact that he is better against righties. Lou always has one guy he is afraid to use. Most of last year it was Snowman. I expect it to be Russell this year.

I will have to disagree, at least at first. Lou loves throwing guys into the fire early on when they are new. If he shows he cant handle the tough spots he is given, then he wont last too long once Lilly gets back.

I'm still hoping we will trade for a pen arm so Russell doesn't have to be on the team.

That's where I'm at too. Lieber and Patton set a precedent with Lou.

Russell's nickname is "Huge Doucher", because that's what he looks like. Probably how he pitches too.
